You will find the answer to your question in the post made by anon above you.

And I quote - And yes, it's almost 1GB because it has film grain, dynamic motions and special effect attacks in the same scenes. That's an unholy triad of bitrate needs. -
Why's the files size so damn big?

"Better"
Without downloading both to test (which no one probably would), I would say the youshikibi 720p will be better visually.  The translation should be the same, as both are from the same source, Thora -which happened to be the highest rated version for this show at AniDb.

The reasons for my choice:
1. The deadfish 1080p actually has a smaller file size than the youshikibi 720p, so you either have a "thin" 1080p or a "fat" 720p, so to speak.  The original Thora 1080p is 7.1GB and 720p is 3.2GB.  Another way of thinking about this is that deadfish is around 1/7th the size of the 1080p original, but youshikibi is only about 1/2 the size of the 720p original.
2. The preview pictures for each.  I see crisp images in the youshikibi (the newspaper, for example).  I see muddled stuff in the deadfish previews.

Lacking any other info, I would say go with whichever preview pictures you prefer.  Also, if you're using re-encodes due to slower hardware, the 720p is probably a better choice.

I forgot to mention audio --the youshikibi probably sounds better on most systems (ac-3 dolby digital, 2 channel but 3X the overall bit rate of deadfish's AAC 6 channel.)
I can't really say for sure, but I imagine that they are both roughly the same.
I think both groups just re-encode releases. So it doesn't matter much.

Hopes this helps!

I figured it out, check out episode 161 at 18:48. haha
been looking around deadfish for comments and explanations, but I'm going to guess that movie one (stated to be 95 min) is an abbreviated version of the first 5 episodes done in its native 4:3 (back then), and the maybe split into 2 parts because of the change in AR to 16:9 (from perhaps the BD release?) while playing the 6th episode in its entirety and together they make up 95 min. (just read when 1 clicked on episode details that ep6 was "presented in widescreen B&W")  While the second movie (abbreviating the second series) and as advertised as a double feature runs its whole length together in 95 min?  Didn't think it's take that much research...thanks.

this episode feel like deja vu
forgot to say that the movies are a compilation of the 2 ova series, info from here (russian): http://www.world-art.ru/animation/anim...php?id=181
interesting, thanks, I couldn't discern that on ANN, well there I couldn't really even discern what these 2 were because the lengthc didn't match.
- Gunbuster/Top wo Nerae wikipedia page says: The entire final episode is monochrome, except for the very end. Unusually, this was achieved by executing the artwork in shades of grey & shot on color film, rather than shooting color animation using black and white film.
- and here: http://www.toonzone.net/forums/anime-f...NUxD7YiWIU
Hello, thanks, is the movie part 2 supposed to be in all B&W except for the credits?

Oh, it's the girls of Bakemonogatari versus Omamori Himari.  The fur is going to fly this time...

MKV linking, via both ordered chapters and segment linking, are done via UUID, not filenames, so files can be renamed, and the player should still find the right parts as long as all of them are in the same folder.
It's pretty much certain that a re-encode will change the UUID, and if they simply blindly copied the chapters across, then it won't link properly. mkvinfo should (if memory serves me correctly) provide information on the MKV's UUIDs as well as what's in the chapters. mkvmerge can be used to modify the file's UUID (or the reference in the chapters, if that suits you better).

" Thanks for sticking with us through the show. Two last things:

The upper-right sign at 13:59 and 18:42 that we couldn't find room to set reads "I hope we can stay like this a little bit more".

We will, hopefully, have a rechecked and upgraded batch out by year's end.

See you later sometime!"

This is the second time I've seen this from PeejeShare, and this only seems to be a more recent occurrance.
The script only ensures that the full file is sent and that it gets an 'upload successful' type response, but doesn't double-check that the resulting file size on the host's is sane. I'll probably add this check when I get around to it (although a file size check can only really detect obvious corruption), though for this file, unfortunately the PeejeShare link is corrupt, as you predict.

When the clock on the AT homepage reads 13:13, 22/12/2012 , the dawn of a new day would have just risen on the ruins of the main ancient Mayan temple, if the world hadn't ended.  Sorry virgins. Game over, score is zero forever.  The zero will be branded on your forehead shortly.
1. To see if you are in heaven or hell, attempt a PeejeShare download.  "All slots are full, please try again" is only for the most evil sinners.
2. To Love Ru: Darkness.  Those in heaven will find they can now see through light beams and steam of any strength.  The rest will find the videos have been replaced by Braille manuscripts with the bumps sanded off for censorship.
3. All Pocket Monster/Pokemon fans will be in heaven, having died in their innocence like children.
4. All Naruto fans will be in hell.  You know why.
5. Fairy Tail fans will have to wait for the recreational drugs to burn off before they can find out.
6. One Piece fans will be on staff to increase suffering.

Ends with a cliffhanger. Don't expect a 2nd season any time soon, maybe an OVA, since the material currently available won't be enough for a 2nd season.

so, what is the ending?
will they make season 2?
look more this group just added there speed subs to [Hotaka-Ra ws] video. both 3.1GB.
no complains on ny aa. even if it's the video (not corrupt screen), nobody watches the Super Warner Bros. part.
Their shields are failing.  Prepare the boarding party!  Ayrr!  That's some good video pirating!
1. The spelling of "Sowrd" in the file name instead of "Sword" doesn't build confidence.
2. The torrent listing this file came from was about 9 months ago.  Since then, Nyaa counts about 6,000 downloads and no user comments.  If you got it from here, this file came from that torrent.
3, If you calculated a crc, then you've already downloaded the file, so you may or may not be interested in downloading one of the two other versions here at AT:

https://animetosho.org/file/animeout-s...eamv.41730

https://animetosho.org/file/sword-stra...-mkv.44215

The first one is a mini-HD: 500MB.

But you could compare their translations to the version you downloaded without downloading either of the other versions by clicking on their embedded subtitles, if you're thinking you may have gotten a joke or incompetent version somehow ("Sowrd"!).
or if it was not modified (not 100% guarantee).
What's with the first screenshot?

it's not working
The titles you mentioned that are without 1080p are simulcasted by funimation (Hulu) and not by Crunchyroll. HorribleSubs never encodes any of their shows, they just steal them and provide it for free. Crunchyroll upscales their releases, But I have no idea what funimation does.

I guess it just falls down to how they encode it and how much bandwidth they want to use up.
Unfortunately I cannot tell. I see nothing about the CRC in the filename (nor on their website or nyaa).
Even though the CRC is missing, it doesn't effect their release. CRC is just their to check if it was corrupted.

Hopefully this helped!

Sorry for the delayed response. Had other things to worry about these days. Hope you're still lurking around this forum. I've thought about the minor alternation in the titles once and tried modifying each file under the same name (copy+pasted one to every other files; in the concept of [Ani-HL]_name_of_the_series_episode_(type_encode)). But that didn't sort everything out so i'm pretty sure that's not the case. The original files had blanks in between each, instead of underlines or hyphens.

Ah, now that's a new hypothesis isn't it? I see... since the one i extracted this series was from a magnet link... there's a remaining possibility that the original uploader MAY have alternated the files to another like you mentioned, but didn't update the chapter info. Changed back to their original THORA files huh? Well in that case... i'm gonna need to find out the names from these original source...

Oh and secondly, in response to Anonymous-san's post from 11/28/15:51, i did update my codec pack to the latest version. Which i think i mentioned before that my using OS is a mac, and thus neither haai or k-lite isn't appropriate for my software.

There are consistencies in what Horrible is doing.  There are several shows which he only offers in 480p and 720p.  Most of the others also have 1080p.  This probably is due to differences in network sources.  The shows which come in 3 resolutions tend to run: 480p about 180MB, 720p about 320mb and 1080p about 550MB.  The shows without 1080p tend to come in at 480p = 250MB and 720p = 580MB.  These titles include Kamasama Kiss, Robotics Notes, Code Breaker, Jormungand, etc.  These results are pretty consistent across these shows.

Now the "Why?" question:  I've never been able to find out that kind of info at the Horrible website, so I can only guess:
1. An attempt to make up for the lack of a 1080p quality option in those titles by boosting 720p parameters.  These 720p files are about the same size as those 1080p titles.
2. Something related to the lack of a 1080p option in those titles: signal quality issues, encryption issues, ?

I think #1.

Good or Bad: This issue highlights a big difference between anime fans world-wide right now.  Some of us are on metered internet service or have very limited speeds.  These folk want encodes that pack a lot into smaller files.  Others of us have unlimited and/or high speed internet service.  These folk don't care if an episode is 300MB or 600MB.  Additionally, some of us have massive storage or can add it, and some of us have limited storage.  Some of the info on Horrible's site suggests he's working out of a fat unlimited pipeline part of the world, at least for now.

Find sources that meet your needs.  For the size conscious, I think Commie is the best.  All their encodes are hi10p, tend to the smaller sizes and usually look pretty good.  And their scripts are often the best, even when just CR-Mods.

I'm guessing the peejeshare link is hosting a corrupt file.
