I'll have to do my best not to get into autistic encoding preference fights. Maybe if we both stay quiet the others will ignore it! There's no way to sage a comment on AT... I still don't know how I ended up in this thread, what was I ever searching for.
Time to go watch some anime instead!

Nevermind, why the fuck did I reply to a half a year old post. Somehow I ended up in this thread for some reason, I don't even know why!

Continuation:
Could I upgrade? Old CPUs that can play it can easily be found for a few $, motherboards more expensive. Do I want to? I actually already upgraded, I have a recent machine, the reason for upgrade was local LLM/image gen "AI" use, more recent video games and a development machine, and the actual expense was much higher (mid few thousand $) than any such trash picked PCs, and yet, I will continue to watch my anime on my old C2Q, as transparent encodes in anime is a solved problem, I have enough space and bandwidth even on my old machines and I don't like to be forced by others. I will watch AV1 if the following conditions are met: 1) original source was in AV1 (all streamers provide transparent H.264 encodes these days as well, and BDs are in H.264, UHD BDs are in HEVC) 2) if AV1 was not used to recompress, but was targeting transparency, and more importantly 3) if anyone bothers making optimized decoders for it that run even on ancient potatos - they are very possible, but if nobody cares, why would I care about you providing me a "solution" to an already solved problem? (transparent encodes)
I could of course watch it on my new machine, but why would I watch a crappy re-encode.

Thanks for listening to my autism.

As for this release, Kokoro Connect was such a fun anime and it has a special place in my heart, I watched it fansubbed when it aired many years ago, seeing a second BD rip for it makes me tempted to rewatch it again. MTBB already made a regular transparent H.264 decodes, so he's not forcing anyone to watch AV1, this is just for those that really are stingy with storage or live in the north pole or the boonies and bandwidth is scarce.

I tend to find AV1 shills insufferable.

So I'll tell you my entitled story.
Many years ago, back when Eclipse was still a fansub group, they started doing H.264/AVC1 (with x264) encodes besides MPEG ASP(XviD).
I was on a Pentium 3 machine back then, xvid (asp) playback was fine, avc struggled beyond 480p, even with better decoders.
But you know, AVC was great, it had deblocking, it looked fucking good, so much better than xvid, you couldn't tell as well when you used a CRT, but after moving to a LCD, the blocking in xvid was insufferable.
AVC had some banding problems when bitrate was too low, but with a deband filter it was great.
So to actually experience much better video quality, I upgraded to a Core2Quad then, it has SSSE3, and it was good for encoding and decoding H.264.
I finally got to enjoy a lot better quality rips and I got to make a lot of rips and fansubs too, it was a fun time.
Fast forward a lot of years, the C2Q is still good for decoding H.264 and HEVC, at 4 cores it barely reaches 15-30% total CPU use on 1080p 23.0976fps, and even higher it's passable, even 60fps works, even if rare.
x264 has been well optimized for anime, the decoders are all mature and work everywhere, it is good.
Streamers (crunchyroll, hidive, amazon, netflix, disney+, and other ones) all use it, CR even gives it 8MBps close to transparent, you really don't need anything more, it's close to BD quality.
BDs sometimes give it even more, posibly up to 20MBps, again this decodes very well even on such an ancient CPU.
People have had at least 100Mbps internet connections at home for many many years now unless they live in the sticks, even most third world countries have uncapped fast fiber these days.
"Encoding" is solved, anime looks great, any encodes are *transparent*
Storage is not that cheap, nor that expensive, but if you know where to look you can even get 20 TB for 300$.

I don't see the point in AV1, my old C2Q will play all H264/HEVC encodes just fine, most AV1 decoders lack custom code for such old CPUs (they have a few gens newer) because nobody cares to finish writing it, not because it's impossible, it's just a lack of care from the devs - in fact many decoders just simply crash on such old CPUs because they don't even check cpuid right last I checked, and those that are software-only are many times slower (slower than realtime, thus useless) then optimized H264 or HEVC decoders.
Could I spend a week and back-port the slightly newer code a generation back? Yes, I have the skill for it, do I want to waste my time on it? No, I really don't care, there's barely any AV1 original content, in the very rare cases (one single AV1-only release that I'm aware of) I just did a quick H.264 re-encode to watch it.
Transparency is already achieved with x264, it's a solved problem. If you re-encode a streamer's encode to 1/4 the size, even with a more "efficient" codec such as AV1, you are going to murder some details, this is unavoidable in any repeated re-encodes, if you re-encode a BD it's the same, in both cases nowadays most people tend to have enough storage and enough bandwidth they can watch transparent encodes and not worry about anything, even on the most ancient machines possible.
Most people doing AV1 encodes don't go for transparency most of the time, they go for "let's get this as small as possible for some bloke that somehow lacks the storage and bandwidth, but somehow has a modern CPU or custom AV1 hardware decoder".
The reason it even got popular is mostly for corporate needs to save some 20% or so bandwidth costs, meaning Netflix and Google (Youtube) are those pushing for this, this is purely about money for them.
AV1 isn't even anime optimized unlike x264 that had a lot of hand tuning just for this type of content.

Continues
I couldn't say since I dropped this series after the first few eps of s01 because of the sucks factor.

Man, this is crazy. Thank you for your efforts for all this years.
Thanks for the note. I've fixed the All Attachments link so that it downloads all attachments that AT has.
Note that the subtitle tracks haven't been saved due to being over the size limit, so aren't available.
I mean this is fucking, bridon arc... stupid fuck... this ain't season 3

Thanks again for all the comments showing appreciation! I really didn't expect such an outpouring from everyone here.
I'm only responding to questions for now, as I don't have much to comment on otherwise, but your thanks really does warm my heart and makes me feel that I was able to be helpful to many.

Yes, the files are downloaded before subtitles/attachments are extracted. I've written some more info here.

AT's technique is relatively convoluted, but you can find info on it here.

For something simpler, I recall mplayer/MPV having an option to output a frame to an image, so you can use that to have subtitles rendered in the video. It looks like ffmpeg has options for burning in subtitles, or you could use a VapourSynth script to do something similar.

The site downloads the shows first from torrents then admin uses his script(s) to process them automatically. After that you can get subs from this site.

Admin, so how do you get subtitles from .mkv files? I mean, do you download all the shows to extract subtitles?
Hey anon, I happen to have an older release: "[CMS]_Astarotte_no_Omocha_EX_[BD][720p-AAC][B9B5E36E].mkv"
Do you want it, it's 330MB and 720p, I don't have this newer fansub. If so, what would be the preferred hoster to use? I'd prefer something that I can upload from CLI and with proxy support, but can compromise midway if needed.
Is it just me, or is this season of OPM really sucking.  I mean, how do you have a show without the main character.

First of all, I have to say a huge THANK YOU to the site administrator for managing this site for all these years. It's been the primary source for me to get the anime episodes that I am looking for, especially Aikatsu and Precure.

That said, I really hope that come May 2026, someone can see about creating a site almost like this (but not "imitating" it obviously because there are some of us who still don't really do torrents in regards to anime shows). I've really been dependent on this site to get the latest episodes from Precure seasons, so here's hoping a breakthrough can come very soon before then.
You could have helped by saying to click on the "website" link in the "source links" section and ask the uploader directly.

After clicking on a website or opening it, what should he do?
What if he ends up torrenting anyway?

Torrent here is still live https://i.imgur.com/e7rFD1y.jpeg
Asking uploader for what?
That's because the subtitle is 212mb, AT doesn't fetch attachments that are bigger than ~150mb.

Hi admin. I am trying to build my own AnimeTosho-esque service. I am having trouble getting auto-generated subtitles to display subtitles, particularly subs in ASS format. How did you get this to work? I am using ffmpeg to generate the screenshots, but I'm not sure if there's something else I need to use.

Thank you for (essentially) donating a major part of your life to a project which does not profit you, but many others. It seems easy to help others without any reason or reward in theory, but not in the real life, which can and is unfair at times. I thank you for creating this website and maintaining it for such a long time, without any benefit from it.
Hope you find everything that you wish for in your life.

Thank you for everything, I am a quite young user of this site but it will not be forgotten, I love this website.
Sorry for the lack of construction and the poor language level

Love, sincerely
Did my comment seem help?
If so, if he asked for a reupload, I would of course say "no way," as this site doesn't have that capability.
hahahaha...
I'm currently away from home as I only use my pc for torrenting, so the tracker information this site is enough for me.
If you actually clicked on the "magnet link" you would have noticed the updated number of seeds being (1)
Days - Hours - Minutes  is usually frozen in time for when the file was uploaded.
There are 30 seeders

You probably mean reupload or refetch?

admin,
Thank you, for everything. I've moved homes 7 times, in four different countries, since I first came across AT - probably from cyber12 or a-s or somewhere similar - and found yours to be the least obtrusive while being succinct in its presentation. Even with the occasional blackouts and "banning" by certain principlaties... you stuck to your guns and came this far. For all that and more, I salute you, Sir/Ma'am
When the invevitable 4chan thread about some obscure news site covering this internet-monumental event gets started, I hope you take some time to comment to those of us who will no doubt miss coming here.
May your work go down in internet lore/history - not in terms of controversy or infamy - but in terms of legacy, appreciation and lifetime achievement(?) brownie points(!) alongside the work of sites/services/etc like gg, mazui, ubw (and, of course, horrible!).
Sincerely,
HC
Are you Malaysian?

No way you just asked that when I clearly published the episode with Indonesian and Acehnese subtitles we've made 😭

But no, I'm not Malaysian, as clear as the day.
Are you Malaysian? At least the house gecko sounds Malay.
