First of all, there are alternatives to nyaa, it's not the end-all so I don't see why that would matter at all. Second, we didn't invent video artifacts so joining our community to learn about it is irrelevant to the discussion as well. People have documented those a decade before most of us started encoding anything.

Feibanyama is reencoding extremely low quality sources (that are terribly upscaled by streaming services on top of that) using suboptimal settings (for the given sources, and generally speaking) while not using the AV1 toolset to its full extent (FGS notably to at least try to combat that banding slightly for free). Instead of trying to better themselves, like we all went through, they decided to abandon doing AV1 for now and stay in their comfort zone. It's just their loss really. I feel sorry for the people that download his releases because they could get much better encodes out of him at the same filesize granted he adopted better practices. It's a waste for everyone, I don't see how stating that would be insulting as Aura firmly believes. You also did sound like we shouldn't criticize issues at all, which is counterproductive. How is it helping if everyone minds their own business and theirs alone? You wouldn't be seeing fansubbing efforts, you wouldn't have seen AV1 get adopted on anime torrents as much either. What people should focus on instead is doing better, being productive and as respectful as the situation allows.
