Are animetosho in danger? I heard Japan Government are taking actions against anime and manga downloading sites :(
30/07/2014 17:23 *Envy
Ah Mendokusai....
I think this site should be safe I think there mainly going after the ones in China. But then again I could be wrong and this site isn't all the big like animetake for example. Also there's this

"METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) has published a press release stating 500 manga works and 80 anime works are being targeted, not websites. The press release includes a PowerPoint that contains an actual list of websites they are targeting. Included are scanlation sites (slides 11-12), fansub upload websites (slides 13-15), direct download websites (slide 16), torrent sites (slides 17-18), and redistribution websites (slides 19-20)."

Edit: Animetake and Nyaa's are being targeted lucky animetosho isn't.  Let's hope it doesn't get targeted.

Also mangafox, mangastream D: and a few other manga sites a being targeted.

"On August 1st, the government will start simultaneously sending requests to delete illegal anime and manga contents to the operators of the 580 foreign pirate sites which they have found. In addition, the operation will launch a new site to guide the fans to a legitimate site offering some 250 titles including the latest ones at a cost of several hundred yen."

>250 titles

Nyaa alone has thousands of different shows, if they really want people to go the legal route they are going to have to do better than that.

Ah Mendokusai....
Agreed also this is from Herkz "well then answer this: how the hell are they going to enforce it? this website gets tons of takedown letters all the time and yet all the content stands."

Looks like Nyaa's won't be taking nothing down whenever they send them one.
31/07/2014 00:01 — admin
DDL sites and places like Youtube may honour the takedown requests.
Torrent indexing sites are likely going to be unaffected.

Ah Mendokusai....
Yeah look at piratebay still standing even tho the people who made the site is currently in prison. So I don't see them getting affected by it to much and it's not like the Japanese Government can enforce those sites to really do much well am mainly talking about torrent sites.

And anything based in China isn't going to take down anything seeing how the Chinese don't give a rats azz.

Also I doubt mangastream will comply since they been hit before with taking down Naruto and Bleach but yet here they are still scanlating them.

But the thing with them they remove the chapters after a week or so it doesn't stay on the site like many other sites.

Japan likes to make money when possible, but it won't really do anything because anime is their ultimate weapon to try and bring the world's birthrate down to their own.

Incest, yaoi, yuri, loli, josei, barren matches, performance anxiety, magic girls, unrealistic physical standards, Naruto --It's a brilliant strategy.

...Hello, China!

ISPs can track torrents, am I safe with DDLs?
31/07/2014 23:42 — Anonymous
No, just use VPN
01/08/2014 00:05 — admin
Technically they can track any internet activity they want - after all, you're they serve you all your internet.
So really, it depends on whether your ISP cares enough.

Most ISPs don't 'track' torrents as there's often little reason for them to do so. Some may have legal requirements to do so, some may throttle torrent traffic for various reasons (which isn't exactly 'tracking').
Other organisations may observe trackers and forward complaints to your ISP, but if this is your case, then the ISP isn't doing any tracking.

Two things you can do:

1. You can hide your web destinations from your ISP with a proxy service.  There are free and pay versions of this kind of service.  One free one I use occasionally is:
https://simple-proxy.com/

But I've only used it to browse sites FireFox won't go to for some reason, not to dl or torrent.  There may be dl or torrent restrictions for free services.  Your ISP will know you went to a proxy service website, but not what happens after that.

2. Another thing you can do for both torrents and dl services is use encryption (https for dl, accept encrypted peers only for torrents).  Then the ISP can't just read your traffic packets.  They would still know your destinations though, if all you did was encrypt.  For example, with dl services here AnonFiles is a https site, DevHost and Tibb is not.

Last note:
1. DL sites may keep records of who uses them.  We hope they don't anymore, and it's not much in their interest to keep such records especially after what happened with MU, Hotfiles, and Fileserve a few years back.

2. Using a VPN may violate your terms of service.

OP here

I use a free VPN but I dislike the speed. I can download much faster without it but I guess I'll have to suck it up for now.

"Using a VPN may violate your terms of service."
You're saying they know if I'm on a VPN?
01/08/2014 10:38 — Anonymous
Like admin said, the ISP knows exactly what you are doing, including if you're running a vpn --if they want to examine your traffic.  But I also agree with admin that ISPs probably doesn't care what you're doing, unless your traffic load exceeds their business model.  However, I would note two possible exceptions: Institutional ISPs like universities which often block torrent traffic and do other stuff on policy; Or if your ISP is a media group like Comcast, which is possibly unknown territory.

In practical terms, I would say the ISPs probably don't care what you're doing, but encryption is free and easy so why not encrypt your traffic whenever possible, and that is as far as I would go for precautions.  And use proxies if/when you are blocked from sites.

Yall ain't using MEGA no more? Or was that just certain files from a while back?
01/08/2014 09:58 — Envy
Ah Mendokusai....
You need an account with MEGA to upload there that's why it's not being uploaded to.

But Tibb is nice enough to provide MEGA links or if not provided then just ask nicely.

Aight cool, just wondering.

When I search, there is no second page.
Please help.
01/08/2014 13:47 — admin
What search term are you looking up?
A fair number of common terms don't generate enough results to exceed what's displayed, and for those that do, often the links are dead.

You can also try using Google with "site:animetosho.org".
