If possible, can you put Solidfiles back on the main selections
17/03/2019 21:45 — Anonymous
+1

Solid seems best alternative to zippy for UK

Has there been any updates on the Zippyshare issur btw? Verification for instance that they are purposely blocking United Kuckdom?

Zippy has not yet given any reason for the block, you're guess is as good as mine.
A configuration mistake is unlikely given the length of time of the block, and there are no court orders for ISPs to block Zippy.
It is likely an intensional block, the reason is unknown. Could be due to legal notices/threats, in response to Brexit challenges, as a procedure to save bandwidth, an attempt to prevent a DDoS attack, or maybe just for a laugh.

Solidfiles question: I guess you're asking whether a MultiUp menu item can be copied out to also be listed as a separate selection for convenience?

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll drop a note to admin.
17/03/2019 23:46 — Anonymous
Main options for each file seem to be: Sendspace, ZippyShare, OpenLoad, along with the aggregator sites; Go4Up, Jheberg& MultiUp

Solidfiles can be found in the aggregators, but I seem to remember it being a main option along with Zippyshare, sendspace and OpenLoad, untill not so long ago?

Solid is a decent host from the Downloaders perspective, allowing limitless multiple downloading, its a good alternative to Zippyshare in that regard

Solidfiles blocked our upload server.

Already mentioned by Gurphy_TC, but it seems like Solidfiles blocked our server. I just checked again and the situation hasn't changed unfortunately.
Uploading to Solidfiles via multi-uploaders is the best I can do for now, unfortunately.

DDL-Services

Here is one person's experience.  Your mileage will vary and things change frequently.  I download 10 files or more per day.  I think my base wireless speed is 12mb/sec.  Feel free to add you own comments.

Sendspace: Fast, but 300mb per time limit (every 3 hours, maybe)
--not for me, 300mb is half a file.
-------------------------------------
OpenLoad: captcha that my software can't auto-crack.
--not for me, multiple captchas per day is tiresome
--------------------------
Solidfiles: First choice for older files.  About 6 simultaneous downloads allowed for a total speed of about 6mb/sec.  Single files are slow (1-2mb/sec)  Unlimited queue.
---------------------------
Zippyshare: 6mb/sec to 10mb/sec, regardless of number of simultaneous downloads (4 - 6 simultaneous files generally allowed) Unlimited queue.

Lately, it's been quirky but still gets the job done for me, but sometimes slow...
------------------------------
1Fichier: 1 file per 3 hours
--not for me.
----------------
Spotlight: Jheberg/Free

The individual downloads speeds are slow, but you can have 17+ simultaneous downloads and achieve an overall speed in the range of Solidfiles/Zippyshare.
A good option for end of season batches.
(Note: For me 17 was good speed, 18 was bad.)

Free has some older files, so next choice after Solidfiles when looking for stuff almost certainly dead.

------------------------------------
Jheberg has some new offerings: FilesCDN has someone's out there's positive comment.  The others I know nothing about.
-------------------------------------------------

Note: Before you give up on a source, always try different numbers of simultaneous downloads.  Starting small is better than starting big.

----------------------------------------------------
It's been shown before in AT comments that different users in different parts of the world get different service experiences.  Some services that give me terrible speeds and limits give other users great experiences.  What makes Zippyshare and Solidfiles exceptional is they give good service to most users.

You have at least 3 options to improve your download service:

1. Premium account at a ddl-service.  -Not really recommended.
2. Usenet access.  It's like the biggest premium account, but depends on up-loaders for content.  Free access to Usenet is too limited to be of much use.
3. Seedbox rental with Internet connection.  Download the torrents you want to your seedbox and from your seedbox to your laptop.  Shop for a value deal.

Always beware the "but" it usually signals a complete 180
18/03/2019 20:12 — Anonymous
I don't mind the but's ... it does explain one's service downsides. And I tend to agree on that.
What is not OK are the 3 options ... 1. option ... tough not rly recommended. (I mean just think about ANY test - put something in the first place and in the same time ... simply don't recommend it!!! WTFH? How ridiculous can one get? Second - it seems the recommendation is based solely on non free service (while paid access to usenet seems somewhat ok? Why? How? ...) . While I can accept one place for being a free service at first place ... this review doesn't seem to differe between free and paid subscriptions, so it's basically useless itself (it actually does seem to recommend 3rd place which is def. a paid service, while it dooes seem to avoid even free dll except for time being).

I'm sure you are just a typical online hero no matter what your age protected anonymously online that needlessly takes shit to far because there are no consequences for such stupidity.  I grew up around violence and didn't stop getting in fights until I got out of my 20`s.  I personally greatly enjoy violence but I dont threaten people in person or online.  MMa is the greatest. Perfect response to yankee-san. For those that do not know: Why are people so polite to strangers in the Far East? Because they are pussies? No. It is because they have an instictual memory that there are... interesting people in this world, peaple that can 'do stuff' and those people do not generally wear a sign. In a world where anybody could be one of those, the smart option is to be polite.

Ive been lifting since the 80's and have a $4000 olympic weight set, enjoy hunting and other outdoor sports and activities, working on my vehicles building pcs, rarely miss UFC or Bellator and with all that I watch as much anime as time allows. Been into anime since My first gundam series in the 80's. As well as mixed martial arts scool  in my 20's at Renzo Gracie academy in Philly. Im basically aack of many trades. Love learning as well as competing.

Im the onlynone inmmy family into anime but my entire family have high end jobs but also into fitness. Basically nerds that are  sports fitness freaks

The entire point is people can have multiple likes and hobbies.

Really appreciate the help. :) I'm gonna dig in and go through the guides & comments.

#Even a Pawn can take down a King#
What do you mean by "Single files are slow"? Parted download of a single file using X connections is possible for solid and - if needed to boost speed - also zippy (206 / partial content supported). There shouldn't be a need to test the maximum number of connections. The DL software will increase connections till the server rejects (up to the set maximum).
25/03/2019 16:01 — Anonymous
IDM, the very best download manager program, supports up to 32 connections, but I always set the number of maximum connections at 4.
Using a lot of connections (more than 8) increases the risk of file corruption (and the need to re-downloading the file (which is extremely annoying for bigger files)). Downloading a lot of files at the same time increases the risk too.
25/03/2019 16:17 — Anonymous
Just to mention, IDM is not free for use unless you get a cracked version.  Cracked versions carry some risks, like not being able to verify if it has also been altered in other ways...  The actual price for use is low enough, if you don't mind putting your credit card online.

I haven't seen a corrupt file in at least 5 years and my software does up to 20 simultaneous downloads.

I haven't seen a complaint about corrupt files anywhere in at least 5 years.  I believe it's a problem of the past.

Anyways, thanks.
25/03/2019 18:54 — Anonymous

#Even a Pawn can take down a King#
Well, yes. Apart from the discussion about the number of maximum connections, I don't see much need for more than 4.
25/03/2019 15:52 — Anonymous
The good ones are Openload, Mega, Solidfiles and Zippyshare. ClickNUpload, UptoBox, UsersCloud, 1Fichier and Free are OK.
Sendspace, FileFactory, NitroFlare, Oboom, RapidGator and Turbobit are just crap.
The best one for me is Openload. I just can't live without it ;)
XDCC is good at desperate times when all other means are dead.
18/03/2019 18:30 — Anonymous
btw

To add a little bit more info to the zippyshare issue

Did any other UK users notice an unusual page redirect message? It was quite unlike any usual adshit stuff, if I remember right it started about 10 days before, and ongoing right up to the 403 error. It was a message box saying the page was redirecting, and did you want the browser to send the saved form data to the redirected page. No idea what it was about, "Form Data"?

I's possible that if its a UK based hack, Zippyshare 403 could be them trying to fix that issue
19/03/2019 12:45 *admin
Hack seems unlikely as there's generally little reason why it'd be region specific.
That's the first time I've heard of weird redirects though. Although you've referred to it, are you sure it wasn't just some dodgy ad? I think you may get that warning if a HTTPS site tries to "post" data to a HTTP URL (posting form data essentially refers to submitting data, e.g. you fill out a registration form, comment field, login form etc. and click submit). Ads generally don't do that, but some "ad publishers" use ad code to hijack pages by inserting redirect code or similar to perhaps engage in "click fraud" (or CSRF attacks on some other website), for example, fake vote submissions or similar.

DDL-Services, Epilogue

Thanks for all the comments, mostly.

I'll add a couple things:

1. Paid Services: I use only free services because I want to stay very anonymous and am cheap.  I recognize the various advantages of paid services but don't use any, ever (for now).  If you like using free services the best advice is to stay current with releases.

Like AT, I take what the ddl-services freely give, hoping they won't die for a while yet.

2. Simultaneous Downloads: I seldom get good results by setting simultaneous downloads to the software's max and leaving it up to the ddl-service to enforce their limits.  In one recent example, I started at 10 simultaneous and increased one at a time to 17 where my cumulative speed was up to 8mb/sec.  But at 18 my cumulative speed dropped to 300k/sec (!) and stayed there  for 18, 19, and 20 files, the limit of my software.  It went back to a cumulative 8mb/sec when I reduced it back to 17 files.  On another day, I had to reduce it to 15 to get good speed.

3. I get 1-2mb/sec/file on Solidfiles these days.  The simultaneous limits they and zippy impose changes now and then from 4-9 files for me.  The changes may represent local load, or a business model, or something.  Six files at a time on Solidfiles for 6mb-8mb is fine for me.  One file at 1mb-2mb, not so delightful.  For a single file I might use 1Fichier or even Sendspace.

My goal was to provide some info and suggestions for the average AT user.  But I'm glad we have users working at the higher end of all this because we're going to need new options, maybe in the near future.  Technology at the DDL-Service level might be not be our friend much longer...

I know what you mean by needing new options in the future, but we need to remember, these services are not provided simply for anime fans, file sharing is part of our culture now, TV, Movies, Music, Sofwares, Games etc etc etc. If it was just for Anime fans then the anti sharing brigade might stand a chance in an attrutional war, but with all the interests combines, the sharers will always be 10 steps ahead in the dreary game of whakamole.

At a press conference, the producers of Game of Thrones answered the question about GOT being the most pirated show in history by saying it was an honour, and they went on to parry subsequent questions by saying that all their research shows that more DLs equals more people talking about the show, leading ultimatly to more sales of DVDs Blurays and Merch.

anime tosho mirrors legal torrents, correct?
20/03/2019 09:16 — Anonymous
no. Everything here is pirated content, thus illegal.
If you mean non-porn, or safe for public viewing, yes.
But that is just the indirect result of mirroring files from sources mentioned in FAQ
20/03/2019 09:22 — Anonymous
p.s. the mirroring is an automated process, use your own judgement to find out if a file is a porn or virus or neither.
20/03/2019 18:52 — Anonymous
Technically, what's illegal for you is defined by your country's laws and treaties.  It could be perfectly legal to pirate Japanese products in North Korea, for all I know.

So it's your responsibility how you get your anime.
20/03/2019 21:53 — Anonymous
Non-Porn/Safe for public viewing? Are you sure? It often might be a gray zone but I can still remember quite the lot cases where it can be considered as such, despite being called an anime, not hentai.
Also it's not true to everything. There are legal cases true in (nearly?) any country too (nearly cause there might be a case where AT especially or one of its methods might not be allowed)
@OP In the end you should still support the creators by buying the BDs once they are available for you/your country.

Nyaa's rules are:

"Nyaa.si is for work-safe content only. The following rules apply:

    No pornography of any kind.

No extreme visual content. This means no scat, gore, or any other of such things."

I guess the question is which workplace?  Breasts are more ok in Sweden I think, and maybe Japan.  I don't know if there is a worldwide standard for workplaces.
20/03/2019 22:41 — Anonymous
btw, I had to look up "scat".  According to the Urban Dictionary:

"SCAT is an acronym for Special Combat Assault Team. The Unit comes out of the ASS (Amphibious Support Ship) and into the MOUTH (Mobile Operational Utility Tactical Helocopter) to complete it's mission."

...can you dig it?
20/03/2019 23:22 — Anonymous
Yeah, LOL. Like anyone would mater on a site like nyaa. Watch f.e.  Nozoki Ana or even Kuzu no Honkai, and at special scenes tell me its safe for work again. There are MANY, MANY, MANY anime scenes I would not call safe for work, but maybe not directly porn. I am not talking about showing a breast here and there but rather specific scenes. Just watch Ep of Killing Bites and you do know what I'm talkin about. Old examples? I am just talking about very known examples. But well, lets take a look at something actual. A rl good ony, imo no porn at all: Manaria Friends ... But can one deny the fanservice in there? if he's the liberate type he might watch it to, but for the conservative one you may even get fired. Let's be honest there ARE many animes that are at the very least not safe for work. You can claim your rules whatever you want, if noone does care as long as they are not able to shut down the site, it will continue. But it is in no way any proof!
21/03/2019 01:18 — Anonymous
I agree, unless you take into account possible difference between where you live and elsewhere in the world.  In the US today the use of the words "she" and "her" are not work safe and can get you fired.

The problem is to find a different way to frame a description that would not leave you open to arrest for the contents of your hard drive.  I think this is why Nyaa created a vague description.  Perhaps framing this as a cultural study with nothing below the waist would be close.  You can't censor cultures you don't like, after all.  Not the Japanese, not cannibals, not polygamists or the voodoo priest that will curse you if you disagree with me.

Nyaa's description may be in your own best interests after all, or do you want to explain why college professors sometimes look like 10 year olds in anime?  You'd be registered with the police in no time.

The mirroring policy is described at the top of the FAQ page (plus the section titled "What files does Anime Tosho skip?"). The process is automated and follows this policy, and is unable to make any decision requiring a "higher degree of comprehension".
