"This was a hard decision to make for the team, but the truth is, our real life responsibilities have been growing, especially in the times of COVID-19. COVID-19 has really impacted us in various ways, but ultimately it negatively affected how much time we were able to frequently contribute. After some reflection and evaluation, we realized moving on was the best way forward. You could technically say COVID killed HorribleSubs."

Hilarious!

You do realize we all read that already?

My favorite was their signature, "Proudly translated and presented by the HorribleSubs Fansubbing Team."

Tragically, now you'll never have a chance to join their huge team of skilled translators and typesetters.

literally lolled when reading that torrentfreak article quoting the inhouse joke of the horriblesubs 'great leader' as if it was proof of some James Bond villain tier skullduggery
24/11/2020 10:12 — Anonymous
That article reads like it was for a school project written by a ten year old
24/11/2020 18:05 — Anonymous
So MPA prefers that people not read Torrentfreak?  That's not surprising, snake.
24/11/2020 18:11 — Anonymous
p.s. to MPA: a 1 minute response is way too obvious.
24/11/2020 21:00 — Anonymous
Says a guy responding a whole 6 mins after the post hes responding too. If someone here responds to a post right away its suspect, but a whole six minutes later is... Kosher?
24/11/2020 21:15 — Anonymous
You didn't think the postscript was related to the script?  You better ask some unemployed Hollywood writers to help you.
24/11/2020 20:56 — Anonymous
? The article reads like its anti-file sharing. Do you think this MPA of yours doesn't have the ability to take control of a site like that and start writing oohwooscaryyoubetterwatchout style articles? The fact that the tone of the article is all oohwwooo scary bad guys and written in a child like manner is a dead giveaway - A standard psyop manipulation technique is to talk (/write) as if you are talking to a child. It can induce responses in certain people that allow the theme of what you are saying/rriting to sinkdirectly into the persons subconscious. You should look into it, it could save your life. Most other people reading this are probably immune to such tactics as the nwo sith control techniques really only work on the weak minded. You can see these techniques use daily on any covid segment of any major news outlet.

Some people seem to desperately want to think there are no problems or issues.  You do better to think about events than style.
24/11/2020 23:21 — Anonymous
[continuation]

I only pay attention to events.  To me, interpreting style is a compound joke.  One of the many problems with psycho-babble is it has nothing to do with the actual facts or events or even a reasonable interpretation of facts and events.  It's just one person's attempt to interpret the supposed motives of the writer, which don't really matter to me anyways.

TF are probably just ramping up any assumed drama for clicks, but you are right in thinking that they would be a target for infiltration, and that infiltration could be used to generate propeganda. The number one goal of propeganda is almost always to convince your enemy to give up. Convince them that the fight is already lost, and that their actions are futile. In such cases it is wise to be on the lookout for drama, intimidation, fear and in-fighting as these can be used to lower morale.

Stay frosty anons
26/11/2020 23:45 — Anonymous
Haha, propaganda simply does not work with autismos. The chans are like the killing fields of the paid shill. There was one that cracked a was screaming about how at the end of every shift they'd feel like they made some headway into manipulating you lot, then he'd come in for his next shift and it was all back to square one, nothing sticks with you lot, you're probably too dumb for propaganda to work, or too smart, or a bit of both...
27/11/2020 20:53 — Anonymous
Jeez.... Such infantilism... I call for a cessation of the pugnacious misanthrope ways . No need to languish and self-immolation. We can all be more amiable and surmount.

Thank you

AT has nothing to do with what gets torrented and anyone who does probably isn't reading AT's tech support pages.  Your best bet would be to ask for info at the previous dub provider's website, KaiDubs https://discord.gg/JUFynz5

hey admin i download attachments regularly from here, the chapters have a dummy element entry because of which mkvtoolnix-gui refuses to open it. i have to manually remove it so that mkvtoolnix-gui accepts it.
a couple of examples
https://animetosho.org/file/johnny-eng...mkv.788279 this one was uploaded today
https://animetosho.org/view/asakura-te...9.n1307443 this one was what made me finally dig into this
some others that i downloaded did not have the dummy element entry

the media files themselves i downloaded then self-extracted chapters using gmkvextractgui and mkvcleaver for comparison. in all cases the chapter files opened fine with mkvtoolnix-gui and they didn't have dummy element entry.
30/11/2020 08:52 — Anonymous
Using 7-Zip, not WinRAR?
30/11/2020 10:16 — sameer
( -‿-)-🍥🍣
you mean opening attachments that i downloaded? i use 7-zip.
30/11/2020 13:43 — Anonymous
AT chapters opens for me with these examples.  Are you using the current version (51.0.0) of mkvtoolnix?
30/11/2020 14:00 — sameer
( -‿-)-🍥🍣
that's strange. i am on current version 64-bit. mkvtoolnix-gui throws parsing error on the Dummy element tag. i figured it might be something to do with the software admin might be using. but if he too is using mkvextract then idk why mkvtoolnix-gui refuses to open xml on my end.
30/11/2020 14:55 — Anonymous
Retract, I do get the same problem.  I was looking at another project, sorry.
30/11/2020 14:01 — Anonymous
One idea would be for you to try a re-download of one of your examples and see if it doesn't work a second time.
30/11/2020 14:13 — sameer
( -‿-)-🍥🍣
same result as i thought. removing DummyElement tags is not a big problem for me, just thought some weird non-standard thing was happening.
30/11/2020 16:16 — Anonymous
I checked and get the same problem with the AT chapters extract of every episode of yesterday's Asakura download.

https://animetosho.org/view/asakura-3d...c.n1308622

And I get it for ep 12 but not the previous ep 11 of [Johnny-englishsubs].  And it happens for today's download of [Lostyears]

https://animetosho.org/view/lostyears-...p.n1309035

I'd guess AT maybe needs to update something.
30/11/2020 20:08 — admin
Looks like a bug in the mkvextract being used here - thanks for reporting.
I've updated to a newer version, so hopefully that fixes it. Newer extracts will use this newer version.

Hello there!

Really appreciate your site and have been using it for years.
Are there any chances of increasing the file size of the skipping policy?
Any ways I could help out?

Kind Regards,

Skipping policy: Since our bandwidth use and backlogs of shows waiting for ddl-links are both up quite a bit, I don't see AT increasing the torrent skipping size any time soon.

Help out?: We appreciate your appreciation, but we're good for what we want to do.  Thanks anyways.
09/12/2020 13:09 — Anonymous
Something I've noticed is the exact same files will get skipped if the release group puts them on nyaa as a batch (which is more and more common with the decline of broadcast TV and the rise of anime being dropped onto streaming services in 13-episode chucks), whereas they wouldn't if they'd been put on nyaa one-file-per-torrent.

Used to be that a massive torrent was always an after-the-fact batch, but this is less and less the case thanks to Netflix.

The purpose of the skipping policy is a judgement on how much of limited resources to allocate by default on something that no one may actually have an interest in.  We also skip batches of files that have already come here as single episodes, such as Erai's end of season batches and batches of Horriblesubs files.

You probably know that most torrent hosts have an "anti-flooding" rule so they delete a bunch of single episode torrents that could have been batched.  What hosts want are large, well-seeded swarms.  And that's what torrent users want too.

You can think of AT like a pie: If one slice gets bigger for whatever reason, the other slices will have to shrink to offset it.  Increasing the skipping policy level would be one such change.  But the math doesn't change however it happens.
14/12/2020 13:18 — Anonymous
We're well aware of bittorrent's deficiencies, but I fail to see how anything you wrote applies to Usenet or DDL: thirteen files is thirteen files, and it's the same thirteen files however they're presented. If I hand you thirteen nzbs with one file, and one nzb with thirteen files, and it will literally download the exact same articles. Likewise there's no functional difference between me linking you thirteen MEGA files and one MEGA folder.

This is only going to become more of an issue as more stuff disappears behind the Netflix timegate: Netflix Release Day rolls round and group A releases thirteen torrents of thirteen files because that's how their bot works, and they get picked up; group B releases one torrent of thirteen files because that's how their bot works and they get skipped. Netflix releases an eleven episode show in one day, and group B is picked up, Netflix releases a twelve episode show and they're skipped. There is no sense to any of this.

Forgive me being blunt, but my overall takeaway is that you went tl;dr, then churned out a stock response to some other post you assumed you'd read. The question was not about a specific number in the skipping policy, but why it treats the exact same release differently depending on details of how it is posted on nyaa that aren't relevant outside of nyaa.

I think it's obvious how AT operates.  I don't see any policies changing.

Thanks for your comment.
14/12/2020 18:00 — Anonymous
I don't think it's obvious at all: It's been demonstrated how the same group can upload the same files two slightly different ways on a different site and get two completely different results on this one, and your only response seems to be "don't care LOL".

An explanation would be something along the lines of "the specific way it's uploaded on nyaa is really important because _______ "; taking the time to say that you could easily explain this but you decided not to just seems mean. Not everyone knows everything that seems obvious to you.

If you like:

First, to convince me there is an issue, you need to cite specific torrents, what they prove and why, which you didn't.  By specific torrents, I mean actual (links, of course).

Second, to be worth a discussion you would have to explain what a solution would look like and what it would take to implement it, which you didn't.

Hey!

I wanted to know if AnimeTosho would be able to upload all their extracted archives of subtitles/attachments/etc somewhere (like maybe Google Drive, Archive.org, or maybe something like SyncThing). Along with Kitsunekko, I think AnimeTosho is probably one of the largest and most important archives of fansubs on the internet today. There are so few places one can find archived copies of subtitles from multiple groups for the same series, most general subtitle websites barely have any anime subs available. And seeing how just recently a lot of the old DDL links for series are going to disappear, it made me aware of how precious this data is and how easy it is to lose it. Loads of the original torrents these subs/attachments came from are long since dead, and this site is one of the few available sites to download them from.

To preserve all of this important data I'd love to see (and I'm sure others would too) a complete archive of all the available subs/attachments, downloadable as one large compressed archive that gets updated maybe once every other month or so (Kitsunekko offers a similar downloadable archive), or some sort of folder we could sync access to with SyncThing (or some similar software). Its kinda like asking for a really useful piece of software to open source itself, so that way in the worst case all this valuable data doesn't just disappear and the work can continue.

Anyway, thank you so much for running such a useful website that I literally use every day! Keep up the good work! ^_^

Thanks for the comment!

The question has certainly been asked before. Unfortunately, I don't know of any good way to synchronise updates (the consumer-level sync tools typically don't work well for mass distribution).

Using the database dumps, it should be possible to build a tool to retrieve all files and sync them daily, but this does require someone to write such a tool.

Hi admin! I have question regarding my account? Is it possible to delete my account? if yes,, how?

Please don't get it wrong, I find this website useful however I'm not being active for the past months and I'll have to delete my email account soon. If I have time (in the near future, hopefully) I'll come, visit again. Thank you for such a wonderful website but I have to say goodbye (for now, I hope) :((
27/12/2020 06:58 *admin
Thanks for the comment.
You can just delete the email address in the Account Settings page, if that helps. Or you can just abandon the account.
I can also delete your account as well, if you wish, though I'm not sure what the point of that is...
27/12/2020 11:47 — Anonymous: "nakatsuka"
I can't delete my email address in the account settings so please delete my account if possible. I wouldn't like to abandon my account, as I said,  I'm not active anymore due to personal reasons and I'll have to delete my email ad account and social media accounts too.

It's a wish and again I'd like to thank you for creating  such a useful website, keep up the good job and stay healthy. Have a nice New Year! Xx
