I don't know if it matters, but this is not directly from WhyNot but from Animesenshi, a site that creates avi versions of popular shows for those who need that format. WhyNot does not issue any avi format files, as far as I have ever seen. AS used to name the files in a way that reflected their recoding, like
"[WhyNot] Robotics;Notes - 18 (AnimeSenshi Xvid) [B0BAB4B3].avi"

This may be Nyaa's fault in a way. They decided to not allow Xvid torrents a while ago, if they followed through with their threats. So AS would have to downplay their involvement.

All that being as it is, if you need avi or hardsubs, AnimeSenshi has been a good source.

but some people need avi because they want to watch it using a hardware player
but, nowadays TVs support usb with mkv files (softsub is not supported)
