I I thought of this thread when I was rewatching some Non Non Biyori yesterday. The Dropping of the Atomic Bombs were in August, height of the summer, there would have been kids in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, just like Hotaru, Konomi, Natsumi and Renge, all running around enjoying their summer break. Then Boom, gone in an instant, hundreds of thousands of people. Everything.
Like you say...The technical details given in any and all western articles and documentaries on the event, "All very exiting and interesting from a barbaric beurocratic killing machines perspective"
I think its the same across the NATO styled alliance nations, but almost all smaller independent countries, and the Brics also (Brazil, Russia, India, China, etc) have a set remembrance day each year honouring the dead of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was a hell of an event in human history, and it is a quite a big deal for a very large part of the world, annually.
But for those of us from UK, USA, Germany, France etc, well most of us grew up not giving a single thought to Hiroshima and Nagasaki day, and if we did, we learned of it from a non establishment source, certainly not school or state media.
I saw an recent article in a major publication that focused on the bombings from a western viewpoint, the creation of the bombs, the naming of them, the planes used, and the backups and so on. All very exiting and interesting from a barbaric beurocratic killing machines perspective I'm sure.
No respect or remorse shown in the article at all.
Yeah, you made me want to search and it's eerily quiet on the western front. One of the results was this article from last August. After reading it I felt inclined to share:
has someone already reported that new theme always forced on main page (https://animetosho.org/), i changed to dark theme btw (other than newest theme)
Anon: just saying that your links lead to dead ends because of the trailing parentheses & periods in your urls. The links without them are valid, though:
It's no big deal. I like the current color and have been manually selecting it since it was last rotated out. The thought never crossed my mind that i should complain. Thanks again for this great site.
From seeing your responses here, it seems like you're using it fine without cookies.
Appreciate the feedback, but the default colour scheme has cycled every 3 months for the past 8 years now - I don't see any reason to break the cycle. There is no technical way of saving a preference without cookies - it's necessary for the purpose, regardless of your opinion about them, and there's simply no way around it. I did give you an alternative, but that's something you have to do that I have no control over.
This site has zero ads a trackers. What's all this fuss about? 0.o I used to like bright themes and I'm sure there are still many users that prefer bright themes. If you want dark themes, just use Style list and change it to dark.
This might be one of those sites, that the owners and admins are less than fully aware of what makes the site appealing to its users. I agree with the design being refreshingly simple, a concept that is almost an act of rebelio in its own right.
It wud seem less of an issue if you made the default theme one of the less violent colour schemes. then back to being a site that is useable without cookies.
It's not a major concern, it's just... refreshing. This is a very simple website, which has a cewratain aesthetic, filling it with java and cookies will lessen the animetosho vibe
> 1) A confirmation from all connected government branches that the fund is recognised as charity and will be tax and duty free
This is basically the problem they have to deal with. If they give the money directly to KyoAni it'll get a hefty Gift Tax applied to it, because the law currently doesn't differentiate between gift to companies for appreciation and gifts for aid/charity. KyoAni may have to set up an actual charity to receive international donations from the GoFundMe, which will be audited and recorded entirely separately from KyoAni's main accounts.
> 2) A press conference with pictures of Ledford handing over the big oversized cardboard cheque to Kyoani's President
Doubt it'll happen. The Japanese don't tend to "go big" when it comes to stuff like that, especially in disasters. It'll likely be a low-key thing with a humble and appreciative statement released.
You're welcome to look at all the cookies saved here and make up some conspiracy theory around how a single-domain theme preference cookie somehow "tracks you". Unfortunately, there aren't many ways to save a preference other than cookies (or other local storage mechanisms), so there's no ulterior motive, but feel free to make one up anyway.
Of course, I'm sure your excellent taste for design and concern for privacy allows you to know about alternativesolutions, but don't let that get in the way of a good rant.
I actually thought it was one of the notable things about this site, I remember noticing that after visiting here, there was zero cookies added to the cookie folder in my browser. Quite refreshing in this day and age
Now we have cookies to get away from the unesessary hideous colour schemes. what a shame
Modern internet is just Big bro, bro. Tracking tracking track track track tracking
@admin Can you keep Hotaru alive again for me ? Been using her theme since 2016 --> 2016q1 theme :D Or you can use new picture but I really like that purple color if it's easy to have it again later ~
Thanks for the info! Seems like support for it is very low at the moment, and may be a little tricky to implement, but I'll look into it. Otherwise, it's fairly easy to select the scheme from the dropdown on the left. The preference is saved to a cookie so that subsequent visits will retain your selection.
"An unprecedented atrocity has robbed many of our friends and colleagues of their bright futures and has left many deeply injured. News from all over the world tells us that amazingly many number of people has sent us their hearts and prayers, which are like candles in the darkness, for those of us trapped in the darkness of deepest grief. There are many friends and colleagues who are hospitalized and suffering, fighting for their lives. Please give us some time. We promise that Kyoto Animation will continue to create animation that help people have dreams, hope and impress them. Kyoto animation will continue to make its employees and staff lead happy lives, and contribute to society and local community. I assure you that Kyoto Animation will not give up, we will not go quietly into the night...we will not vanish without a fight!
The Memorial is a great idea, an actual physical place for pilgrims is very good for paying respects, and even for personal catharsis, I would like to visit it someday.
I bet the absolute majority that dobated to the gofundme would be 100% happy that the money is given direct to Kyoani to deal with it themselves, it is shameful for it to have turned out otherwise. Kyoani has a reputation that is impeccable, the fans have absolute trust in them. It is like Family.
I was hoping for 2 things at the end of the gofundme
1) A confirmation from all connected government branches that the fund is recognised as charity and will be tax and duty free
2) A press conference with pictures of Ledford handing over the big oversized cardboard cheque to Kyoani's President
Instead of this I see
1) Press statements from Senta Filmworks that make it look like they are looking to bypass Kyoani and take charge of the distribution of the funds themselves.
2) An announcement by the Japonese government saying that they were investing $30 million US in Senta Filmworks (I misread it at first and punched the air as I thought the Jap Government had just donated 30 mil US to Kyoani.)
Fucking clownworld...
The Japanese Government department is the 'cool japan' thing they are doing, a good idea in theory, but it is already under heavy criticism in Japan for their funding choices.
Oh, one of the best things in when buying a jpg is that kyoani actually has a little box on the checkout where you can leave them a little message! So we can help them out a bit, and Ganberae them too, all for less than the price of a coffee!
"Donations made through this GoFundMe drive will not be touched until the details for distribution have been confirmed. We will continue working with KyoAni’s appointed representative and we will continue to provide updates as they become available."
Are they going to transfer money to a US-sanctioned country?! Just simply transfer donators' money to KyoAni's bank account through SWIFT. Billions of dollars are transferred through SWIFT every day. KyoAni will give that money to victims and their families without misusing it.
BTW it's been announced by KyoAni that the attacked building will be demolished and a (memorial) park will be opened in its place.
Best to contribute direct to Kyoani by purchasing High definition images. The online shop is only accepting these digital purchases, and this is best for them as they don't have to do use valuable resources dealing with it.
THe images are about $3 each I think, that is $3 at 100% to Kyoani, no middleman
There are a few different walk through guides, the best one I saw was on the mal forum, I'll get the link...
"The final withdrawal and distribution plan for this campaign’s funds is still taking shape, and our developing plans will be shared on this page as they are finalized. It takes time to determine a plan that considers the complexity of the situation at hand, but rest assured that behind the scenes works a team dedicated to delivering these funds in the most efficient and considerate way possible."
I think maybe President Hatta, God bless him, might as well write the gofundme off, and concentrate the rebuilding of the company with the funding from other sources.
As a contributer to the fund myself, this bothers me a great deal.
Also, I have no idea about this, but I wud imagine that 2.37 million USD is going to generate some interest for the Sentai Filmworks holding account it is currently 'resting' in? If so, the longer it takes to transfer the money to where its needed, the better. From their point of view.
The Dark Grey one (Hotaru) is most neutral, admins, make Hotaru the default scheme, I gotta wear sunglasses untill I swap the frazzling default 1960s theme out
"Helping Kyoto Animation thru gofundme is wonderful. Ledford and Sentai Filmworks are not. DMCA claims targeted at fan subs are the business model he thrives on."
Absolutely
A lot of people are following what happens with this, and to be honest, Ledford is in for a complete hounding on all fronts if he fucks this up.
For your reference, go to the gofundme, and check how many anons contributed
and as we all know, they can be a fucking nightmare to anyone who they think has wronged them, something about them not forgetting and not forgiving I think it is

Maan that Ledford guy sure is full of it.
Just
Give
Hatta-san
The
Money
We
Donated
To
Hatta-san
But, as pointed out here and elsewhere, Ledford has claimed the ball as his own, and he wants to be the big star take all the penalty kicks.
Stupid American has no idea how uncomfortable his posturing makes everyone.
How simple is that?
We don't need a fucking 'team' working behind the scenes to work out how best to divvy up the money. I think he will try to bypass Kyoani and somehow claim to be directing the funds to the victims and families himself
Someone please persuade Ledford to back off, and give the money raised by the fans direct to kyoani
also, btw, I have been following the translated news at every step, and Kyoani's lawyer has proven thenselves impeccable in how they are dealing with this side of things on Ktoanis behalf, very considerate and respectful at all times.
