Actually, 2-pass and CRF use the same rate allocation algorithm (at least in x264, can't see x265 being any different).
2-pass just allows you to target a specific size whilst maintaining a CRF-esque rate distribution.

I used an encrypted yesterday.  Older encrypted have always had some random deletions by the host so some files are permanently unavailable.

Encrypted links have never stopped being posted here as far as I know, but they have always been posted about a month after the torrent has been downloaded.

If you are interested in long-term availability, the AT Usenet postings are probably available for 5 years or more.  Otherwise, AT has too much volume to try and be an archive.

From the AT FAQ:
"AnimeTosho only mirrors new files posted to TokyoTosho/Nyaa's anime category and does not accept arbitrary mirror requests. I suggest trying to ask someone to help you on a filesharing forum, or perhaps use a torrent to DDL mirroring service (or get your own seedbox)."

Making the same requests over and over is bad manners.

Also from the FAQ about skipping:
"Most torrents over 16GB in size, some exceptions are made for torrents up to 32GB in size
Some very specific exceptions"

Its good to make some exceptions once every now and then. Maybe admin make some today.

Ever thought about adding more connectivity with anidb? I'm thinking links to the relevant ID's for files, groups, animes, episodes. Just a thought.
Just hashing the files and then checking there could add lots of info.

AniDB is somewhat restrictive when it comes to querying information, so some such updates can take a while to come down.

Just click on respective show pages > login to aniDB account > Profit.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately there's a few problems with trying to match files:
- it takes a while for AniDB to actually get files added to their database, and since we grab content as it comes in, it's usually not available on AniDB until days after release
- I've seen a number of errors with their categorisation, and change requests seem to take time to be approved

So we actually try to match it ourself via the filename. We do have entries listed by episode. I have tried doing group matching in the past, but it's quite difficult to get this accurately:
- anyone can start a group, and it may not be listed in AniDB
- names can be anything; some even change the name depending on the relase
- generally no limitation with what can be in a name (makes fuzzy matching difficult)
- can be difficult to identify a group from a filename. A series title is usually easier because you have a limited set of titles to check, but this doesn't happen with groups
- duplicates exist

There actually is a AniDB file ID field in the database, for those where we're actually able to match to one, but I don't expose it anywhere - haven't thought that it'd be particularly useful. Were you perhaps looking into being able to reference AniDB entries or something?

For listing files by a group, a search usually works alright.

I think it's only one person complaining about the 1080p resolution.  In my view it's not worth any thought since at best it's a minor complaint about file size.

My second priority for this quest was to compare Clockwork Planet graphics to my other most loved anime I have.

To be quite honest, comments were never really meant to be a social/notification/discussion system, so unfortunately, I'm not really willing to go that far on the feature set on this page.
However, if there's some other system out there fit for the purpose (forum, chat system etc), I don't mind taking a look into it.

Ignoring: Some of us keep an eye on comments to answer questions.  Questions in a forum would be ignored if the forum is ignored.  Otherwise, it would be one more place that has to be monitored if we want to help those who want help, wouldn't it?  Just a thought.

I didn't mean it that way, rather improved categorization makes it easier to sort through what you want to see and what you don't.
This feedback page was never supposed to be for support (or most of the other things it's currently being used for). If you're interested in answering questions, wouldn't it be easier to monitor if posts were clarified accordingly rather than buried amongst the noise?

On the other hand, I don't really want to run AT like a community, which is why it's never happened in the past, and I've kept the commenting system relatively basic.
Ignoring the past week, I don't think we're quite at the point where a forum is that useful, but I'm increasingly getting the sense that the current system is slowly becoming inadequate.
Again, just thoughts at this stage. And with some things, you won't know until you try...

I think most questions here are specific to a particular download and probably best on that download's page, rather than abstract forum questions.

Thinking back to AnimeTake's forums, my impressions were that most of their categories were dead most of the time, with the lone exception of archival requests to other members.  Also, that it was not always easy to find the category with the info you were looking for.

To the extent that forums succeed, they fraction a community into sub-interests rather than create a unified common experience that would be the AT 'community'.

If the mission is the downloading and playing of anime, what you've got right now is probably as good as it gets.  If you want to expand to things like opinions about anime, well I wouldn't be interested, but a smattering of such occasional comments in a common channel, as you have now, is more of a community experience than splintering people off into categories.

AT is uniquely about downloads.  Anidb, MAL, etc. for other stuff, maybe?

"f*ck got virus"
"can't play on computer"
"can you sub"
"please released this anime"
"8bit/mp4 plz"

And more stuff like that. Forum's support section will quickly turn into a cancer.
