Glad you're back, AT! I missed the feedback section with its comments wildly ranging between helpful to preposterous.

Hey, some could enter AT already on 3/2 but i just tried now, 3 hours ago or so it would still not work (tried several times past few days), only mirror. So how's that possible?
08/02/2019 01:26 — Anonymous
Up and down times seem very random to me, so I'm going to start keeping a log, for my own benefit.

Today, after several hours down, it came back up at about 00:00 on the system clock (clock also found on mirror).  I'll see if that holds tomorrow.

Note: Once it was up for only a few minutes then down again.

I presume this is a memory leak, the site crashes after 150 to 200 page loads of the comments section https://animetosho.org/comments
08/02/2019 01:46 — Anonymous
Thanks!  More importantly, what might restart it after a crash?
08/02/2019 13:20 — wave
It's done manually by the admin afaik.
09/02/2019 01:52 — Anonymous
Thanks, I was afraid of that.  If that's the case there is no predictability.

Searched "whyn panty", 5 results came up. Searched "why panty" only the first one came up.
Any idea why? @__@
16/02/2019 12:06 — admin
It doesn't do this any more. Maybe the search index barfed itself (I've seen this happen, but don't know why). The index is fully rebuilt once a day, so it usually does resolve itself.

Unfortunately, a hard problem to track down though :/

I, for one, will strongly oppose and resist any attempts by Google to cripple uBlock Origin. I'm even willing to migrate back to FF. The internet is a nasty, and somewhat hateful, place without uBlock Origin ;)

Chrome is Google and Google makes billion of bucks one way or another with advertising.  So you shouldn't be optimistic.

As far as I know, Firefox is the only not-for-profit major browser, so if anyone cares about their privacy or ads, FF is on your side and everyone else is seeing what they can get away with.  Google could be sued by their shareholders if they aren't doing all that they can to make money out of ads and your personal information.
08/02/2019 13:42 — Anonymous
Firefox by default collects plenty of telemetry data. Don't be naive, everyone is in the data business now. Being non-profit is a tax shelter, not a zero money business. Nothing is free, you are the product. Only way to stop these companies is to cherry-pick open source code and compile your own browser.
09/02/2019 01:43 — Anonymous
"compile your own browser" isn't very realistic, hence FF is all their is.

It's been a while but when I last worked with Chrome I couldn't find any of the kind of extensions for protecting personal data that I could get for FF.  It was like a category that didn't exist.

Google is taking heat from governments for ads and personal data.  Firefox is not.
09/02/2019 10:53 — Anonymous
That telemetry data is used to enhance the browser only. You can take a look into what kind of data is collected, I don't think that will serve any paid services. Also you don't need to compile it yourself. There are many forks around without telemetry but other optimizations depending on your needs (like if you still need xul compat.)

#Even a Pawn can take down a King#
Relating "by default", I somewhat agree. But that doesn't any matter, If someone cares.
I've never recognized a behavior or seen a serious report, that any data is sent, when switch and/or endpoint url is/are disabled in about:config.
Those who don't want to mess around with details, can go with some well known config like:

Does AT have a tor link?
09/02/2019 16:40 — Anonymous
The AT FAQ mentions using tor but gives no link for AT, so I would say not at this time.

About/FAQ link can be found in the left column under the AT logo
10/02/2019 00:02 — Anonymous
It would be nice though, thinking of those 502 gateway errors.
10/02/2019 00:50 — Anonymous
If a memory leak is crashing the system would a tor link do anything?
10/02/2019 01:20 — Anonymous
Who said it would? Learn reading, or asking before posting. I am talking about situations where it would be some local isp porblematic routing while it would work for others.
10/02/2019 01:27 — Anonymous
You seemed to suggest something related to the present situation.  Who knew you were an idiot.

In fact gateway errors have extremely rare to nonexistent here, newbie.
10/02/2019 01:52 — tishonor
I do read someone claiming to be who he is not and likes to insults others. The only facts known: "There have been many errors the past few days." On gateway 502 search page 308,307, ... read between lines .... it's common. Now this is a more genetic answer. So you act. can't know the real cause (for some1 external). HOW can you know what caused these problems? You can't, just some nap thinking to now everything. Just to let you know: I've tried act. several VPN % DNS Servers. Now attacks here are just temporary, but a tor link is likely to stay active.
10/02/2019 02:22 — Anonymous
admin left a note here in Feedback a few days ago saying it was a memory problem.

12/02/2019 00:09 — Anonymous
Yeah, few days. Just THINK for once. That 200 post back then has been acknowledged way back. There has been many post each day with dropouts between. Do you think it did work half a year and then in between hours the same amount was set?
12/02/2019 00:34 — Anonymous
Sorry, but I don't understand what you are trying to say.  The site appears to be fixed now.
12/02/2019 00:46 — Anonymous
It does now. So you say - even if we could do s.t. about if, it wouldn't work in half a year, 2 weeks, or tomorrow - we should not do anything?
12/02/2019 01:42 — Anonymous
AT has an outstanding uptime record, aside from the recent memory problem.  You can even go to a separate mirror site if you have problems at the main site.  All you'll miss out on are strange comments...
10/02/2019 02:28 — Anonymous
Tor:
I'm not sure it would be wise to encourage tor here with a link.  In my experience, these have often been the people who have behaved badly enough at sites to be banned and tor is their only way back.  More bullies than civil libertarians, sadly.
10/02/2019 02:51 — Anonymous
I can see that at least. So there is no way around those ppl?
10/02/2019 14:47 — Anonymous
No.
11/02/2019 07:01 — Anonymous
Perhaps AT could (if it's possible) disable comments coming from tor connections?
11/02/2019 16:51 — Anonymous
Wikipedia also says 'The NSA (US Government investigators)  targets Tor users...for close monitoring...'.  --not a good thing for a place like AT if true.

So what's the positive in making efforts to improving access for troublemakers and what risks are worthwhile for AT and why?
12/02/2019 00:59 — Anonymous
That's what wiki does say, on a general approach that is.
Now if you just think - would a gov. monitor a site on tor links only, no it wouldn't. Http(s) is way easier. But Tor is way harder, act. both but if one would be compromised ...
If you rly think this site is not being monitored at some state ... happy ponies!
I think the only question is about the capabilities of the servers.
12/02/2019 01:03 — Anonymous
I mean what are we talking about? AT is and will never support .... you know what some ppl are after. That's why it's still running.
12/02/2019 01:09 — Anonymous
I think AT doesn't want to attract attention to itself, and that is wise.
12/02/2019 01:44 — Anonymous
So you think there are no risks to adding tor links, and you are nobody.

Sorry.
12/02/2019 23:23 — Anonymous
AT is the only good place to get links for anime. Copyright nazi's absolutely know of this site, a tor link wouldn't change anything.
12/02/2019 23:30 — Anonymous
Copyrights are mostly private companies.  Tor is federal governments.

And you can't know it doesn't matter.
12/02/2019 23:39 — Anonymous
With copyrights you get DMCA letters from lawyers and representatives, and you comply and its done.

With Tor you get government surveillance and referrals to other government agencies.  When a government puts a target on your back, it doesn't matter what you are innocent of.

They got Al Capone for evading income taxes, not multiple murders.
14/02/2019 21:41 — Anonymous
is OP still clamoring for tor spam?
13/02/2019 23:23 — Anonymous
That is the only legit reason I do see here. But what's the difference between VPN + User Agen Faking + min. Fingerprint?
10/02/2019 02:38 — Anonymous
"someone claiming to be who he is not"  --What is the name being used falsely?  The true login holder should be told.
11/02/2019 23:58 — Anonymous
I rly, rly, rly do hope you just wanted to make a very! lame! old! joke! But seeing comments these days and how rid. such a joke might be - you're pob. another example of: "I know there is an x an c, but in the end, I can not read at all"
12/02/2019 00:25 — Anonymous
You either replied to the wrong comment or you're trolling.
13/02/2019 23:19 — Anonymous
I did neither. LEARN TO READ.
13/02/2019 23:22 — Anonymous
trolling and/or mentally impaired, poor fella.
14/02/2019 23:59 — Anonymous
I might like to teach a lesson or two, but not the meaning of words! Try to show it to others, go to school, whatever. But I rly think you are trying to troll here. In any way I'm out, srsly.
15/02/2019 01:34 — Anonymous
There has been someone who keeps telling people they need how to read.  That person has a serious communication problem.  His comments generally don't make sense.  Get a clue, when you have to tell so many people that they don't know how to read, the problem lies with you.  Best wishes.

And it's a rude thing to say to people, btw.
12/02/2019 02:06 — Anonymous
Are false accusations the kind of "humor" we should expect from tor users?

No thanks.
10/02/2019 02:00 — Anonymous
go back to /pol/
10/02/2019 01:29 — Anonymous
And could like anybody stop doing the very wrong assumptions just cause they feel like it? I've seen such behaviour on various sites and it .... rly freaks me out ... how could one just think he guessed it right????
16/02/2019 12:17 — admin
Thanks for the suggestion. Setting up a Tor hidden service does have its uses, but I don't see a pressing need for it at the moment. Unfortunately, it wouldn't solve 502 errors.

AT is current accessible via Tor, for those that need it, just via an exit node rather than a hidden service.
09/02/2019 13:21 — Anonymous
Anyone seen or made any good anidb userscripts that implements AT in useful ways? For example a link to AT showpages would be great.

I'm using an edited version of this currently but it's not ideal: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/3502...arch-links
10/02/2019 14:18 — Anonymous
Interesting note (to me, anyway) -- every time AT was 502'd I could still see the about page. That was with cleared browser cache and browsers rarely used.
16/02/2019 12:19 — admin
If you're wondering why, the server here does employ server-side caching of some pages, so the About page would've been served from cache rather than via the gateway, avoiding the broken gateway.

Please make "2017q3 - Hotaru" the default Landing page colours, other than that, Ganbere my good Tosho's!

Welcome.  As I recall your color scheme selection is stored in cookies and should remain the same for you unless you delete or don't use cookies.  No reason to impose one person's preferences on others.  The numbers refer to year and quarter, the default scheme being the current ones.

I'd like to see a Valentine's Day theme but what are the colors of embarrassment, hopelessness and despair?
11/02/2019 22:17 — Anonymous
You can use any AT style as your default with an addon like stylus. It works even without cookies.
https://github.com/openstyles/stylus/w...ternatives

Best part is that you can use the AT style as-is, or edit it to make a completely new one.
