Hi Admin,

there seem to be DNS issues with the animetosho.org domain.
For "animetosho.org" i only get an empty reply, and for any subdomains (ex: storage.animetosho.org) I get non-existant domain responses.
Tried from multiple source IPs of different ISPs and querying multiple external DNS servers, so I'm quite sure thats not a me problem.

Currently the only way access the site due to a hosts entry.

Looks like the domain is not currently delegated.

Another option is to add master dns server of animetosho.org (ns.gransy.com) to your dns server config, in case of dnsmasq the line should look like:
server=/animetosho.org/95.179.136.180

This will work for subdomains too.

Unfortunately the registrar suspended the domain and deleted the management account.
Dealing with them is frustrating, though they are at least (somewhat) cooperating with a transfer.
I wouldn't be surprised if this takes days to resolve.

It's more or less what everyone suspected. I was unfortunately slow to see/react to the CSAM posts, which gave time for the registrar to notice it, and they immediately nuked the domain without notice.

found it by using the tor-rowser, if you go to a clearnet url like AT, if there is a .onion available, (i guess advertised by the clearnet site or linked in the site code somewhere, never looked into how it actually works) a field next to the url in the tor-browser will appear that will tell you that there is a .onion available and if you click on it it will open that page, then c'n'p the url into a txt file for future use :u

Seems like they were using Subreg (aka Gransy / Regtons)
In general they're a decent non-US DMCA ignored domain registrar, but sometimes they do fuck up royally, like with ExtraTorrent and archive.today
easyDNS is the best option for .org registration
They won't do shit about piracy sites unless they get an Ontario court order
I assume someone here knows the AnimeTosho operator, so feel free to pass on the easyDNS recommendation to him

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll keep that in mind for next time.
After a bunch of painful back-and-forth with the current registrar, I think I've managed to initiate a transfer; current issue (amongst several others) is that their approval system is broken.

That's at least something, that they did push it faster when they could have laid back and wait till it happens automatically. The sad thing is the takedown in the first place. It's not like you willingly upload it, but are willing to delete it, usually fast. And all just because a bit slowdown ....
I wasnt online that time, but read even the naming was quite clear? May block that too? Of course some content detection would be best, but I am not aware something exists (cheeply)? Else its hard to detect, rather trackers need to check on hashes of known leaks and such so legit accounts cant be missused. But you wont ever be 100% safe anyway.

That's not how things works any more. Yesterday SCOTUS granted wide immunity to POTUS, so he can even nuke anybody for any reason or just for fun and won't be held to account until another superpower (China PRC?) grows strong enough to keelhaul POTUS to the ICJ in the Hague. That's still decades in the future as USA is the global hegemon, so Canada needs to watch out more!
Also, as Hollywood invests ever more into anime, otaku piracy starts to hurt the pockets of those whom Mel Gibson despises and that tribe is very powerful politically and financially. A few years down the line anime pirates will likely be hunted by m0ssa6.
