I see a lot of people saying they'll miss the DDL - I'm going to miss the Usenet grabs. It's just so, so much more convenient and it's going to seriously suck going back to what will feel like the stone ages when I fall back to my other sources. Ugh, I'm going to have to source storage for all of the seeding it's going to require.

Thanks for all the hard work. It'll be missed.

I don't miss the DDL, I rarely use it..I will miss the convenience of finding torrents from multiple sources on one site (e.g Anime Tosho). Also, I can download the subtitles/attachments without having to download the torrent itself. Now that's handy.
18/03/2026 04:45 — Extremity
My server is automated so the main advantage for me is that with the Usenet downloads I don't have to worry about maintaining a ton of additional torrent seeds. I already have to do that for my other content, so having 80% of my anime not require it was huge. I had Tosho prioritized over pretty much everything else.
18/03/2026 06:43 — Anonymous: "..."
and where do you think usenet gets their content? torrents. once this site stops fetching new releases, it will also stop uploading to usenet.
19/03/2026 11:08 — Extremity
...what? That's the point. That's what I'm sad about. Wtf?
19/03/2026 11:39 — Anonymous
The anon @11:50 yesterday said "not all come here for ddls" and you missed their point by further replying that you don't care about torrents, since your "server" can't handle them. Now you simply ignored them by saying "yeah, that's what I'm sad about". lmao. Get real.
20/03/2026 10:54 — Extremity
The fuck are you talking about, dude? I came here to thank the guy for his hard work because it was so convenient to be able to grab everything via Usenet and not have to dedicate more storage to seeding. Nobody is disputing that torrents are a big part of how this shit works - I also didn't say "not all come here for DDLs" - I said that a lot of people mentioned they missed it and that I PERSONALLY going to miss the Usenet grabs more. What kind of fucking douchebag are you that you're trying so hard to start some weird internet battle here over somebody simply saying they preferred using the Usenet grabs and would miss them? You win, dude, you win the internet fight. Go away.
20/03/2026 11:58 — Anonymous
Well, the fact that you keep replying to everyone here meaning you simply care too much. Just ignore and move on. But you can't do that, can you?
20/03/2026 14:55 — Extremity
No, I simply care too much.
19/03/2026 11:50 — Anonymous: "..."
Calling torrents "going back to what will feel like the stone ages" is crazy. Torrents are literally the backbone of piracy.
20/03/2026 10:56 — Extremity
It would feel that way for me because I've been so spoiled by having everything this site grabs available on Usenet. Nobody's disputing what torrents are or do - that's why I said "feel like."
28/03/2026 05:43 — Sevro
They are, but Usenet is also really useful. I guess those days are now ending for anime. :(  I am really going to miss this site.
Thanks to the site owner who did it long as he has.
28/03/2026 05:48 *Sevro
So all Usenet index sites for anime depend on this one website? So Geek, Ninja, and others just won't have anime anymore on them? This website is the only website that allows them to be out on the Usenet groups to be downloaded?
28/03/2026 07:02 — Anonymous
They never said this site is the only one who uploads to usenet tho? Where do you read that? your imagination?
19/03/2026 20:47 — Anonymous: "Dave"
Have you heard of debrid? Stremio? Nzbdav? Instant cached torrent streaming. And instant Usenet streaming. All foss.
19/03/2026 20:48 — Anonymous: "Dave"
No storage needed either.
20/03/2026 10:58 — Extremity
Debrid is one of those things I always planned to play with but never got around to, but as my server grew it became kind of a hobby to manage it and I like having everything locally.

I feel like people are taking this as if I was genuinely complaining that torrents are "bad" or something - it was just a random half serious comment that I've been spoiled by the convenience of Tosho and not needing to torrent anything available here - that's it, it wasn't some grand commentary on file availability or some definitive statement that torrents are a bad thing. Fuck.
28/03/2026 05:38 — Sevro
I do use Debrid but that is a pain the the butt since it won't go right to Sonarr will it?
28/03/2026 05:37 — Sevro
I don't know how we are going to get Usenet Grabs anymore. I am pretty sure all the Index sites for Usenet get them from here right? *sigh*

Would the admin intend to remain as a developer for the usenet tools? I'm asking because I'd miss it if he wouldn't.
19/03/2026 11:52 — Anonymous
I think all of his tools for this site are already available on github -> https://github.com/animetosho
19/03/2026 14:08 — admin
The tools are under my account, and I don't plan to delete them, so I'll remain a developer.

If your question is whether I will still work on the tools, that depends on future interest. The tools were developed for posting binaries here, and since that won't be happening after updates stop, there's going to be less motivation to do much work on them.
Having said that, I haven't really developed much on them for a long time now, so it doesn't really change much. I'll probably still do small amounts of maintenance work, unless someone else wants to take over development.
19/03/2026 16:00 — jetdszn24
Glad to hear that. Thanks for the replies and clarification, and especially all the work you've done in years. :)

nyaa deleted lots of pages, the mirror site is really necessary.
really sad to read this message.  just hoping there will be a mirror site with a complete magnet database.
this site is really good, saved me lots of time to find the complete series of old anime.
thanks for your service.
19/03/2026 23:37 — Anonymous: "nyanpasu"
It's not always nyaa that deleted torrents, sometimes the uploaders also deleted their torrents but you're right. To be able to see deleted torrents is still a cool feature to have.
19/03/2026 15:15 — Anonymous: "who?"
Is the part that scrapes various sites like nyaa and nekoBT open source? I'm just interested in making a better feed for myself. (I would have used animetosho...)
20/03/2026 02:56 — admin
I'm working on releasing the code to that, but it won't be of any use to you. The scraping code is designed to populate a database and isn't inteded to be a feed.
20/03/2026 15:49 — Anonymous: "who?"
Rather than taking the code unchanged, I'll probably look only for inspiration. How to access the other sites, how to merge the listings, how to exclude posts that are unwanted noise.
Anyway... unfortunate to see this site gone. You ran a really nice operation here.
21/03/2026 06:21 — admin
The upstream sites all have feeds.
Merging is done by skipping duplicates identified by BTIH.
There's some rules to try to skip malware, but they're only somewhat effective.

That's the general gist of it - nothing particularly fancy.

Thank you! for 15 year of Service.
21/03/2026 14:39 — esqueue
As someone who uses usenet and Sonarr, this site was a fantastic resource for an anime watcher like me. Thank you very much.
21/03/2026 18:33 — Anonymous: "Anon"
Agreed, the usenet mirroring has been an incredible resource over the years! Going back to other other methods will be annoying but it was good while it lasted.

Many thanks admin!

With subsplease IRC dead, I will dearly miss AT. Thank you for your years of service. I am sad that it will not be passed down to someone else.
22/03/2026 03:41 — Anonymous
Nothing stopping you from hosting something yourself.

Everyone relied on a handful of people for too long.
22/03/2026 03:48 — Anonymous
If they can do that, then they will not use Anime Tosho in the first place. Sites always come and go.
22/03/2026 15:58 — Anonymous: "wangenumb"
I think the site stopped updating recently
22/03/2026 16:51 — Anonymous
It's working fine for me.
