As far as I know, the 50GB limit only applies to block accounts (a.k.a. one time payments that give you a set amount of data that doesn't expire). It's hard to get clear information on what you actually get with each provider, but I don't think there is any upload limit on unlimited monthly accounts with Astraweb.
Astraweb is also terrible for any Western content due to their automated DMCA process. That is really where I've seen most of the complaints come from. As far as anime goes, I've never seen anything get DMCA'd.

I agree. The NNTP standard is a bit shit, and a fair few of the providers have terrible automated DMCA processes, but at this point I think it has a lot to do with your specific provider.
Just some other things (if you weren't already aware): Never pay the price that a provider asks. It's practically a god damn tradition now that the providers put their real prices behind "promotions". Just go into google and search, instead of looking at their actual website. Astraweb for example has http://www.news.astraweb.com/specials/8paypal.html which is practically half the price.
And if you do consider changing provider, just make sure that you don't choose one on the same backbone as your current one. https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/wiki/providers shows a list of the providers and their backbone locataions. There are only a few real providers, and just a shitload of resellers.
Thanks for the tip! Despite what I said earlier, I haven't yet looked for a new provider, though it's still on the table. I've actually heard a number of complaints more recently about posting to Astraweb (is there really a 50GB/day limit?), but it may be worth a try. It looks like Ishouni is using Newsmangler to post articles, which, from what I've seen, doesn't have much in the way of error correction, so perhaps Astraweb is just fairly reliable.
For now, I've decided to try looking into ways to improve reliability as much as possible from my end. Thought I had it, but I suppose hosts get outbursts of unreliability at times :( (I don't get Usenet in many ways - for one, this level of reliability wouldn't be accepted in many other places)

The other bot (Ishouni) who posts to a.b.m.anime.highspeed uses Astraweb as a provider as far as I know, and I've never really seen anything more than the occasional missing segment for what they post. Might be worth a look if you were considering changing provider.
As a general tip, I'd start with the last part, then the first part, as most of the 7z header is at the end (and there's a small stub at the beginning). This is because your archive is failing to be recognized, which usually suggests a corrupt header.
Thanks for the reply. I wanted to verify whether the way I was extracting was wrong before downloading again. I am using the latest version of 7zip so I guess I'll re-download part 001 again and see if the same problem occurs.

I downloaded the parts, as you described. I used 7-zip "Extract Here". It asked for the password and assembled the parts. The resulting file plays fine beginning to end.
So the question is why it's not working for you. After updating 7-zip, the next thing I would recommend is to move the parts into a temp folder near the root of your drive. The title of this movie is long and Windows has a cumulative limit of 255 characters in an address (c:/folder/subfolder/.../filename). When an extraction gets near this limit things don't always work.
If that isn't the problem, I would guess one or more parts of your download were corrupt. Try replacing part 001. If that doesn't help, then 005, then the rest.
That's all I can think of for now. At least you now know it does work for someone.
(P.S. Trivial note: The crc of the file I assembled matches the computed crc that AT generated, so I have an identical file to what AT received and issued. But it is different than the crc listed in the file name. The author probably forgot to update the file name.)

Hi, is there a special way to deal with Encrypted Download files. I am downloading a movie split into five parts and Encrypted Download files are named d3a6eefce7d57fba.7z.001 etc and pass being "https://animetosho.org/file/309442". normally I'd expect 7zip would prompt for pass when I try to extract 001 file but when I tried I got unspecified error. All the split files are exactly same sized so I think chances of download error is pretty low. I noticed that when one of the split file is corrupted it end up with different size then the rest. So I am wondering if I need to use a different approach or a software to extract the file. By the way hjsplit could merge the files but resultant .7z file was unrecognizable by 7zip. I'd appreciate if someone could help.
Oh yeah, I wasn't thinking you would upload old files as well since some are impossible to get now. Though, I wasn't really sure what you meant by "expanding it".
I have also used the ddls and so far they're working perfectly.
I probably don't know anymore about it than you do: UpToBox links are available as recently as 22:00 26/5 but not after that. Since then it has been listed as an unavailable hoster by jheberg. The site is still up and the old links are still available, so I guess it's wait and see. It looks to me as if they've changed certain things about their site recently, so maybe they are in the middle of a reconfiguration. There were some news items concerning other hosters on 27/5 but they did not mention UpToBox.

I haven't actually used it yet, I just happen to spot it on some older files. I mean, if you can expand it (though that seems like a loooot of space needed), that would make this site just that much better with lasting links.
Well, as everybody said, it's the CRC value of the file. If you use downloader app such as JDownloader 2, it has a built-in CRC check. It will monitor the file name for CRC value pattern (which is usually [8-LETTER/NUMBERS]), then after the download, it will check the downloaded file's CRC value and check it against the value in the filename. If the value is the same, then you can be 99.99% sure that the file is the exact same as the one in the download server (that particular downloader will also try to redownload the file if the CRC value isn't the same - if you choose to let it do so).
Something I've been experimenting with for a short while. It's still available, but will only show up for files older than 14 days. The idea is that it may provide something that lasts longer than the regular links we have.
I don't yet know how well these direct links will work. As of now, it seems to be doing alright, but, you never know... I have been thinking about expanding it more if it all goes well.

Sorry to tell you my AV have stopped a virus just when I opened a page. It was a flash player exploit, and I would've been infected without any AV... So unless you want to go on linux, keep one ;)
This is bad, now only 1F & UB are good, but they don't last long. Jeodrive, very unstable, always stop at random percentage, can't resume. Paste new link, not work, need restart IP then work again.
