Hey anyone know what "FDCF4FB2" mean in title? And how do we get that?

Typically, that's what crc values look like.  It's a way to check on transmission errors and it's sometimes used in irc to search for files (Wiki crc for details).  Use the AT search box and get:
https://animetosho.org/view/buriburi-c...mkv.988692

Nyahaha! #FelineYogi@irc.rizon.net
Moreover, if you click the filename of the file...
https://animetosho.org/file/buriburi-c...mkv.313446
you'd find that the CRC32 value in the filename matches with the CRC32 generated at the server after the file was downloaded.
27/05/2016 08:15 — BobbyWibowo
Well, as everybody said, it's the CRC value of the file. If you use downloader app such as JDownloader 2, it has a built-in CRC check. It will monitor the file name for CRC value pattern (which is usually [8-LETTER/NUMBERS]), then after the download, it will check the downloaded file's CRC value and check it against the value in the filename. If the value is the same, then you can be 99.99% sure that the file is the exact same as the one in the download server (that particular downloader will also try to redownload the file if the CRC value isn't the same - if you choose to let it do so).

I know that AT has no control over the websites were the anime show files are uploaded, but has anyone else had problems with Solidfiles only downloading malware / virus files since 5/13/16?

I am familiar with Solidfiles' long history of opening up new tabs to malware sites a few times when clicking their "Download File" button, before finally allowing the anime file to be downloaded.  But since Friday, rather than eventually downloading an anime file, Solidfiles instead attempts to download a malware or virus file.

For example, when I clicked to download [HorribleSubs]_Assassination_Classroom_S2_-_18_[480p].mkv on Fri., a file named [HorribleSubs]_Assassi.exe was downloaded.  My Norton AV caught and deleted this exe file, stating it was heuristic virus named SAPE.Heur.B6994 from cleanbundlesmeta.com. Saturday and today the virus file (SAPE.Heur.DE8B3) originated from updatepackage.com.  As these ongoing actions can only damage Solidfiles reputation, could their website have been hijacked?

Just curious.

Remember their tagline that were used upon the first few months of opening their website? I think it goes somewhere like "Hosting file with no bullshit". Then, the motto disappeared after a while and that's when the ads started pilling in. It could only get worse now, who knew.
16/05/2016 00:23 — Cryptic
Make sure the download link is from solidfiles and if you see a .exe, cancel it. It's not that hard to avoid as long as you have adblock and you check the links.
16/05/2016 04:52 — Anonymous
Once you learn how to recognise potentially harmful files, you dont need anti-virus software anymore. Never use one since 4 years ago, 0 case of virus for me.

Downloading an unknown exe file is a bad idea.
Always enable the file extension.
When you see a few download file button, just hover over them and look at the directory they'r leading to at the bottom of the browser. Pick the right one, the others ALWAYS leads to some harmful software download.

Sorry to tell you my AV have stopped a virus just when I opened a page. It was a flash player exploit, and I would've been infected without any AV... So unless you want to go on linux, keep one ;)

Solidfiles has gotten more aggressive with their ads, and maybe less concerned about what companies they take money from.

In addition to the cautions mentioned above, people here have suggested two ways of avoiding solidfiles problems:

1. Disable Javascript before you open the link to solidfiles.  This makes the content link available with no pop-ups or tabs.  I just tried this on the example you mentioned: My adblocker avoiding displaying any ads, and disabling Javascript before opening the page avoided any pop-ups or tabs.  The only link available to be selected was the content link for the mkv file.  There are various add-ons for various browsers to enable and disable Javascript.  I use one for Firefox called "QuickJava".

2. Use Internet Download Manager or JDownloader2.  These auto-downloaders avoid the gunk and get the goods.
16/05/2016 14:54 — DrCanuk
I appreciate all the above input in regard to this problem.  To update, I checked Solidfiles today (Mon.) and clicked to download [HorribleSubs] Gakusen Toshi Asterisk - 19 [480p].mkv, and after three malware site tabs had been opened (& closed by me), the file shown ready for download was [HorribleSubs] Gakusen.exe, which was the same SAPE.Heur.DE8B3 virus file now originating from updatefilesranch.com.

Sorry everyone, I just figured out why this problem was occurring.  Solidfiles changed the format of their download page twice recently, including last Fri..  There used to be two download buttons side-by-side, but on Fri. it changed to a single button (that led to the aforementioned malware sites).  After scrolling down, I found the "Direct download link", which is how the download page had been set up in the past, but this link used to be visible without scrolling down.  While this may just be another deceptive tactic by Solidfiles, I was not aware that any such site would willingly accept money to place malicious links on their download pages whose sole purpose is to mislead users into downloading viruses / malware onto their systems.  Go figure!

Again thank you for all the suggestions!

A small point - Norton's heuristics category is for things that are suspicious to them or unusual, not proven threats.  For example, it gets triggered if a file has two extensions, like 'video.mp4.mp4' which sometimes happens by error and with no bad intent or content.  A heuristic is a short-cut for a fast decision, a starting point.  I would go with such a flag, but I would want better evidence before drawing your conclusions about solidfiles.

P.S. If it gets reported as you describe it, Norton won't let you even go to their pages anymore without overrides.

I'm more worried about whether solidfiles actually is desperate for cash, and if so how long till they disappear.
16/05/2016 18:04 — Anonymous
Looks like Solidfiles also starting a Premium membership today and I'm getting much slower download speed because of it compared to before despite using Internet Download Manager.

Ouch!!

The party's over...

I won't need that new hard drive...
17/05/2016 21:25 *ilikeit
Damn it Solidfiles. First 1fichier, now you...

Normally, openload is a good option but it automatically converts mkv to mp4, which is annoying.
17/05/2016 22:11 — Anonymous
Solidfiles: Actually, I downloaded 12 files today, speed seemed near normal.
Openload: I think I saw a comment that conversion can be avoided with 7z

they disabled download accelerators so now IDM and etc download at the 350KB/S limit

A small thing, but when I click on any series, like

https://animetosho.org/series/m3-sono-...gane.10514

I get a series picture placeholder instead of a picture.  If I click on the placeholder, I'm told access is "forbidden" as in

"Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /pics/anime/151816.jpg on this server."
20/05/2016 04:28 — admin
That's odd - I don't get that at all.
Does it still happen? If so, right-click the placeholder and copy the image location, as well as the link location, and paste both here.
Thanks.

Works now, thanks.

Other series still work, some show placeholder but click to image.
22/05/2016 11:58 — admin
Thanks for the info.
Does it work better now?
23/05/2016 00:48 — Anonymous
Sorry, this example remains unchanged: "Forbidden".

If it's just me, maybe it's not worth figuring out.
23/05/2016 04:08 — admin
Could you post the image and link URL (right-click -> copy image location + right-click -> copy link location)?
Thanks!

This is bad, now only 1F & UB are good, but they don't last long.
Jeodrive, very unstable, always stop at random percentage, can't resume.
Paste new link, not work, need restart IP then work again.

What's the oldest fansub/encoding group still around?
22/05/2016 11:31 — Anonymous
Probably h-b they've been going since at least 2002 and are still releasing stuff, albeit rather slowly.
22/05/2016 12:34 — Anonymous
Do they have their own website, nyaa account, wiki page e.t.c? I can't seemed to find any information about that, just some random stuff on google instead.

I have no idea. I think Coalgirls, Chihiro, Doki, Commie..are groups that existed for a while now.

gg would prob be the oldest since they recently returned to action.

Pardon my quick edits, but I'm not sure how public admin means for this to be.  In the past, this was a members only thing and not discussed.

I'll leave it for admin to respond with any specifics to your question (when, how, who, purpose, etc.) or as something for people to figure out on their own.
27/05/2016 02:48 — admin
Something I've been experimenting with for a short while.
It's still available, but will only show up for files older than 14 days. The idea is that it may provide something that lasts longer than the regular links we have.

I don't yet know how well these direct links will work. As of now, it seems to be doing alright, but, you never know...
I have been thinking about expanding it more if it all goes well.

Any feedback on it so far?

^^^ I've only been using the direct links after solidfiles disabled download accelerators
28/05/2016 02:14 — Cryptic
Oh, sorry for posting the link. I realize now why you'd want that not public.

I haven't actually used it yet, I just happen to spot it on some older files. I mean, if you can expand it (though that seems like a loooot of space needed), that would make this site just that much better with lasting links.
28/05/2016 05:34 — admin
Won't expand to older links, we can only really do stuff about newer content unfortunately.
28/05/2016 15:31 *Cryptic
Oh yeah, I wasn't thinking you would upload old files as well since some are impossible to get now. Though, I wasn't really sure what you meant by "expanding it".

I have also used the ddls and so far they're working perfectly.

Are UpToBox links currently not working...?
28/05/2016 04:10 *Gurphy_TC

I probably don't know anymore about it than you do: UpToBox links are available as recently as 22:00 26/5 but not after that.  Since then it has been listed as an unavailable hoster by jheberg.  The site is still up and the old links are still available, so I guess it's wait and see.  It looks to me as if they've changed certain things about their site recently, so maybe they are in the middle of a reconfiguration.  There were some news items concerning other hosters on 27/5 but they did not mention UpToBox.

Hi, is there a special way to deal with Encrypted Download files. I am downloading a movie split into five parts and Encrypted Download files are named d3a6eefce7d57fba.7z.001 etc and pass being "https://animetosho.org/file/309442". normally I'd expect 7zip would prompt for pass when I try to extract 001 file but when I tried I got unspecified error. All the split files are exactly same sized so I think chances of download error is pretty low. I noticed that when one of the split file is corrupted it end up with different size then the rest. So I am wondering if I need to use a different approach or a software to extract the file. By the way hjsplit could merge the files but resultant .7z file was unrecognizable by 7zip. I'd appreciate if someone could help.

It will be about an hour before I can try to replicate.  Until then, one quick suggestion - see if your version of 7-zip is up to date.

First of all, we're talking about:
[Ultime] Gekijoban Date A Live - Mayuri Judgment (BD 1920x1080 x264 FLAC)/[Ultime] Gekijoban Date A Live - Mayuri Judgment (BD 1920x1080 FLAC) [1D43DBFE].mkv  Right?

I downloaded the parts, as you described.  I used 7-zip "Extract Here".  It asked for the password and assembled the parts.  The resulting file plays fine beginning to end.

So the question is why it's not working for you.  After updating 7-zip, the next thing I would recommend is to move the parts into a temp folder near the root of your drive.  The title of this movie is long and Windows has a cumulative limit of 255 characters in an address (c:/folder/subfolder/.../filename).  When an extraction gets near this limit things don't always work.

If that isn't the problem, I would guess one or more parts of your download were corrupt.  Try replacing part 001.  If that doesn't help, then 005, then the rest.

That's all I can think of for now.  At least you now know it does work for someone.

(P.S. Trivial note: The crc of the file I assembled matches the computed crc that AT generated, so I have an identical file to what AT received and issued.  But it is different than the crc listed in the file name.  The author probably forgot to update the file name.)
01/06/2016 05:45 — Anonymous
Thanks for the reply. I wanted to verify whether the way I was extracting was wrong before downloading again. I am using the latest version of 7zip so I guess I'll re-download part 001 again and see if the same problem occurs.
01/06/2016 07:24 — admin
As a general tip, I'd start with the last part, then the first part, as most of the 7z header is at the end (and there's a small stub at the beginning).
This is because your archive is failing to be recognized, which usually suggests a corrupt header.
