Usenet posts have been a bit stuffy again for the last day or so. These are the shows that I have in my database that are incomplete. http://pastebin.com/raw/cctvgPnc

Unlike the times before, it's not just the last segment that goes missing (most of the time), it seems to just be random segments throughout. eg: http://binsearch.info/?b=[Doki] Fate K...g>&max=250

The other bot (Ishouni) who posts to a.b.m.anime.highspeed uses Astraweb as a provider as far as I know, and I've never really seen anything more than the occasional missing segment for what they post. Might be worth a look if you were considering changing provider.

Thanks for the tip!
Despite what I said earlier, I haven't yet looked for a new provider, though it's still on the table.
I've actually heard a number of complaints more recently about posting to Astraweb (is there really a 50GB/day limit?), but it may be worth a try. It looks like Ishouni is using Newsmangler to post articles, which, from what I've seen, doesn't have much in the way of error correction, so perhaps Astraweb is just fairly reliable.

For now, I've decided to try looking into ways to improve reliability as much as possible from my end. Thought I had it, but I suppose hosts get outbursts of unreliability at times :(
(I don't get Usenet in many ways - for one, this level of reliability wouldn't be accepted in many other places)
05/06/2016 12:00 *oliver
As far as I know, the 50GB limit only applies to block accounts (a.k.a. one time payments that give you a set amount of data that doesn't expire). It's hard to get clear information on what you actually get with each provider, but I don't think there is any upload limit on unlimited monthly accounts with Astraweb.

Astraweb is also terrible for any Western content due to their automated DMCA process. That is really where I've seen most of the complaints come from. As far as anime goes, I've never seen anything get DMCA'd.

this level of reliability wouldn't be accepted in many other places
I agree. The NNTP standard is a bit shit, and a fair few of the providers have terrible automated DMCA processes, but at this point I think it has a lot to do with your specific provider.

Just some other things (if you weren't already aware):
Never pay the price that a provider asks. It's practically a god damn tradition now that the providers put their real prices behind "promotions". Just go into google and search, instead of looking at their actual website.
Astraweb for example has http://www.news.astraweb.com/specials/8paypal.html which is practically half the price.

And if you do consider changing provider, just make sure that you don't choose one on the same backbone as your current one.
https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/wiki/providers shows a list of the providers and their backbone locataions. There are only a few real providers, and just a shitload of resellers.
06/06/2016 04:45 — admin
I don't really want to pay for a monthly account since I'm not downloading anything, but thanks for the advice anyway.
I'll keep that list handy when looking for another provider though!

As for the broken uploads, they should be fixed now.
08/06/2016 15:12 — oliver
If you don't mind me asking, what provider has unlimited upload on block accounts? I didn't think there were any. I don't think I would pay for a monthly account either in that case, even with the occasional failure.
09/06/2016 01:25 — admin
I'm probably not the person you want to ask for this (if anyone else knows, do chime in!), as I've never done posting before this.
I thought unlimited uploading was standard actually - only downloads were typically metered.

It would be great if I can go to next or previous page just by pressing left or right button on keyboard. I mean, like reading manga in manga site. Just a suggestion tho. :)
06/06/2016 04:52 — admin
I've never really thought much about keyboard shortcuts to be honest.
Maybe I could put something in. I don't want to use left/right though, as those buttons often have other uses (such as horizontal scrolling).
Thanks for the idea though!

Oops, looks like I broke anonymous posting over the last few days.
Should be working now.

Great Leader gives us anime.  Thanks to Great Leader!

Works for me on a random try.  Which show were you trying to download attachments for?

It looks like 'subs-only' works, but "All Attachments" --> 502?  Is that it?

12/06/2016 04:18 — Anonymous: "DKILLER1"
Checked on most of the recent anime with some old anime...Nothing works for me....Every one of them giving 504 error while downloading all attachment file.....

504 errors are more like system busy.  Waiting a while then retry usually works, unlike 502's.

Anyways, probably subs-only for a while, sorry.
12/06/2016 08:28 — admin
Should be fixed now, thanks for the report.

For some reason the site doesn't load for me every day from around 17:00 (UTC+1). The next morning it works fine. Needless to say, I don't have this problem with other websites. And according to downforeveryoneorjustme.com it is indeed just me.

What the hell? Anyone else have this problem?

Strange problem.  Two thoughts:

You could go to our mirror site instead when that happens, if that works for you:

https://mirror.animetosho.org/

Diagnostically, you could see what happens with a tracert and see where it stops:

tracert animetosho.org
14/06/2016 08:53 *Anonymous
I didn't know there was a mirror. Thanks for the link, it works even when the main site is down for me.

As for the tracert, I'm getting this: https://someimage.com/0Rq5lQe [admin edit: removed first few lines]

6 and 12 seem to be the problem. Also, the message is just "timeout" in my language.
14/06/2016 12:21 — admin
Is the traceroute being performed whilst you cannot access this site? Because it suggests that there's no problems actually getting here (i.e. messages end up reaching the server).
If it is during that time, then your access issues may lie somewhere else - do you get any error when accessing the site, or does it just hang and never load?
15/06/2016 06:23 — Anonymous
Yes, that was during the "down time", but in fact the result was the same when I just tried it one more time.

During that time the website loads for a long time and then the message appears: "The connection has timed out."

Moderator    Invisible Avatar - Patent Pending
The specifics of the daily timing make me wonder about something like parental controls or other policies specific to your location or ISP provider.  You're not in school housing or something like that, I presume?

Anyways, I can't think of anything else, given the tracert.  admin might have more ideas.  The mirror site amounts to a solution for now.  Otherwise, whatever happened to create this situation may un-happen eventually.

(P.S. If the situation ever becomes worse and you can't get here or to the mirror at all, the last resort is a proxy like:
https://1freeproxyserver.com/ )
15/06/2016 10:24 — Anonymous
Yeah, I'm browsing at home. And like I said, animetosho is the only site that works this way.

Well, there's really no point in you guys wasting your time over this, unless it could be resolved effortlessly. Even if not for the mirror, I'd just download my anime before evening, when the site still works. I thought I should report this just in case.

Thanks anyway and keep up the good work!

Thanks for reporting it.  We'll see if anyone else reports a similar problem.  I'm pretty sure there's nothing we can change here that's going to make a difference.

(If you want to try something, log in as adminitrator to your house router/modem and see if there's anything unusual.  Mine allows sites to be blocked during specific hours based on URL or keywords like 'anime'.  And one of my routers recently created random goofy changes after a local power outage.)
17/06/2016 07:56 — Anonymous
Unfortunately, there's nothing in my list of blocked URLs/IPs/keywords.

Also, I was going to try what the admin had suggested in the reply below, but as if out of spite the website worked fine the whole day yesterday. I'll try using that curl program when it's back to normal (or rather back to abnormal).

If things worked after accessing your router, that's interesting.  You might want to try accessing your router again the next time the problem shows up.  (I don't know why just accessing it would help, but I usually settle for whats instead of whys.)

Or maybe this problem is more occasional and less consistent than I was thinking it was.

Good luck, either way.
18/06/2016 08:05 — Anonymous
Hmm, but I checked the router's settings early, when the site should have still worked anyway.

I'll try doing that the next time. Thanks.
19/06/2016 08:23 — Anonymous
And I did try it, but no luck.
16/06/2016 03:13 *admin
Thanks for the info.
If you're willing to do some diagnostics, could you try these commands, posting the output of each, whilst you're unable to reach the site?
You'll need the cURL utility: https://curl.haxx.se/download.html#Win32 (select one with SSL included)

ping -n 10 animetosho.org
curl -I http://animetosho.org/ --verbose --trace-time
curl -kI https://animetosho.org/ --verbose --trace-time

Thank you!
18/06/2016 08:00 — Anonymous
The problem came back back yesterday. I welcomed it like an old friend. Like I mentioned in a reply above, the day before yesterday it worked fine for no apparent reason.

Here are the results you were asking for: http://i.imgur.com/dpA3EkS.jpg

And for comparison, results of diagnostics done while the site was accessible for me: http://i.imgur.com/AD6AFwi.png
18/06/2016 12:46 *admin
Thanks for the results. It's rather interesting - connectivity to the server is fine (ping works), however TCP connections aren't getting established - likely being dropped by something in the middle.
Do you have any other devices you could try on the same connection?

Otherwise this may be difficult to diagnose. It may be interesting to see what works and what doesn't, but it probably won't help. Only other thing I can think of to test is connectivity to a non-standard TCP port, and one with no service listening:

curl -I http://animetosho.org:9000/ --verbose --trace-time
curl -I https://animetosho.org:9999/ --verbose --trace-time
19/06/2016 08:49 — Anonymous
The site works the same on a laptop and an android device, both connected via the same router as my PC.

Curl results: http://i.imgur.com/yRbsI3Z.png - it may be worth mentioning that the latter command gives me the same error even now, when I can access the site.

Also, during the "down time" when I'm refreshing the page, once in a while it does load partially (no menu, only a few items on the downloads list), though it takes a couple of minutes.

Now I realized I have yet to try the most basic thing. Next time I'm going to restart my router.

One more thing. I'm not sure if this is of any importance, but I have a dynamic IP.

Does anyone know why there's no Deadfish/Bakedfish releases since yesterday?

If you click on the link to their website:
http://deadfish-encod.es/

You get pushed to a fund-raising website with the following message:

"Posted on June 11, 2016 by DeadFish Encodes
Haven't seen much of a push in the past few days towards reaching our goal. If we can't get just a tad bit close. We'll have to go on a hiatus for a while. In order to figure things out.

Thank You for everyone who took the time and effort. Showing your love and support through out the course of these past few years. We truly enjoyed working with/for all of you, and placing a smile on all of your faces with our daily releases. Hopefully something changes in these next few hours. That will guarantee we can't keep providing you with this same service.

Once again. Thank You All For Following Us Down This Long Road."

Thanks. Hope than Deadfish can get back on their feet.

Bakedfish is Deadfish is Spacefish: All are now dead with no new shows, as of a couple days ago.

I don't see any other hardsub mp4 alternatives for this series.  Your best bet would be to try and use one of the HorribleSubs mkv files.

https://animetosho.org/series/re-zero-...atsu.11370

If you can't play mkv files at all, you might want to look into streaming playback.  Some of our download providers have offered streaming options in the past.  I haven't been keeping up on that, but if you're interested maybe someone can suggest something.

Good news - Bakedfish/Deafish is back, for the moment.

But if you click on their website, you only get this message:
"Site Is Currently Down. Due To Insufficient Funding."

Why
15/06/2016 04:52 — admin
Some people are unable to find enjoyment in life. Hence they prey off the misfortune of others.
