What's a reasonable and courteous rate to poll the RSS feeds at?

And is there any benefit to using ETAG or similar?

The server will throttle you if you request too much, but any sane amount should be fine.
There's no point polling our feeds if you want really up to date info, since we only poll sources every few minutes (hence you're better off polling sources if that's your aim).

I'm not sure about your ETag question - our feeds don't send such a header.

That's why I was asking: there's no point in me writing ETAG/if-modified-since code if the server's going to ignore it or not derive any benefit.

My aim is just to set a script running and forget about it, so I'd like to not waste resources for no reason.

Plus if other people end up using it, that'll amplify the effects of a stupid default, so I'd like to get it right. I was thinking some reasonable prime number of minutes?

Oh, I see where you're coming from now.

I could implement If-Modified-Since support if you think it'd be useful. Otherwise, if you're interested in developing complex logic, there's an Expires header which is somewhat the recommendation.
Or just use a fixed interval, cause that's way easier to code for. As for the interval itself, it's rather pointless to go below 5 minutes, as that's the minimum length of the server side cache. Other than that, it largely depends on what you think is appropriate. Personally I'd use 30 minutes, as there aren't really that many updates for a lower interval to be beneficial, but if you think faster updates are worth it, then set it lower.

I see that you're probably concerned about the resource usage on the server side, such a poll would have. I'm actually not that concerned about it - perhaps you've set a gentle default (likely, due to the consideration you're showing), but there'll be plenty of others that scrape and don't. It's the latter bunch that I have to worry about, not the former, and I doubt any reasonable default you pick would have a noticeable impact anyway.

So, just set it to what you find comfortable with.

But still Im amazed that ever recently ppl still had no idea about Admins avatar, and had been asking admin about her avatar. She has that avatar for 6 years already. Did I say it right? Is that called remuxing? Im not sure. I just want to add files to as single mkv, I dont want to modify the bitrate or quality.

yes, it's remuxing.
First, it won't screw up bitrate or anything cos remuxing is not encoding. You simply combine them.
2nd, keep in mind though in case they're not sync together, there's a delay option in MKVToolNix. But if delaying is not good enough, you have to retime the subs or audio yourself. For subs, Aegisub. For audio, no idea, google it.

Yes, commandline tools as mkvmerge are known to be harmful when called without commandline options because only-mouse-users click on them. Especially on Windows 10 Pro (TM) 8x8-bit.

Well, it's hard to give exact hints, as I don't have Windows here. There should be several executables. Just run the one named mkvtoolnix-gui or similar. The "GUI", is what you're searching for.

nobody can upload anything to this site. What you need to ask is for someone to upload it to the place where the bot scrape these torrents from, anidex.

More a general fansub/torrent question, anyone know what is up with [tompel fansub]?

Second time now sonarr grabbed a torrent from them via nyaa.si, this time it was "[tompel fansub]_ little witch academia - 24 (1).mkv".

Firstly, this episode hasn't aired yet.
Secondly, this seems to be Indonesian fansubs according to google/their site and yet they get uploaded as english on nyaa...
Thirdly, the torrent never goes anywhere. It just sits there with 50 leechers and no seeders. It got deleted by nyaa pretty fast.

This is a nyaa problem, I'm just curious if anyone knows what they are doing? Are they trolling nyaa/advertising their site or is it some honeypot thing grabbing IPs?

I'd usually speculate a mistake and/or attempt to grab attention. Honeypot seems pointless as you can just scrape trackers for plenty of IPs.

Possible - sure. Quality: depends on your TV vs Monitor, the connections being used, the quality of the files you watch and the setting of your SW-Player. Everything high quality, i'd say animes might be better on a monitor (while real films def. on TV - in most cases if it's any good). But if your monitor f.e. is just some TN Panel - animes on TV highly rec. too.

No I didnt mean streaming. I was considering getting a big TV instead of a monitor for my PC. So I thought to watch anime on a 135 cm TV would look better than on a 23 inch monitor. Thats all. Im not streaming by the way, all anime I have is on my HDD.
