Thanks for the reply. I was asking about exes, actually Visual Novels that have been released only by DARKSiDERS groups. So I thought maybe someone had any experience with their releases. I didnt mean to spam - but I do think VNs are directly related to anime more than anything, so I took the chamce to ask here.

Open the .exe only in Sandboxie (download and install), it isolates all .exe away from your real system and can not damage it.
Select "run sandboxed"
"run windows explorer"
confirm the [#] (crucial) is on the title and you are good to go, do not open any unknown files outside the window.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I could not install Sandboxie because the setup threatened to "Lock Up" my PC. Here is the file I wanted to test. I have scanned it with Malwarebytes and found no virus. Can I trust that result?

So I ran the DARKSiDERS "intro" and after that Malwarebytes turned up 3 "Trojan.Shutdown.UPX" in a game exe and two desktop shortcuts. What the hell? Those items were not infected an hour ago. Coud it be that the DARKSiDERS intro has infected them? How the hell did they hide a Trojan in the exe that even Malwarebytes and VorisTotal do not see it?

Be aware that not all "DARKSiDERS intros" are the same. Files aren't the same just when they have the same name. They should have exactly the same hashes to be identical.

You're using a SKIDROW release and expecting a malware-free (though harmless) experience?! 0.0
Usually the only problematic part of such releases is their steam_api.dll which is identified as malware by some security products. Any release with any file identified as malware other than those steam_api.dlls can be harmful to the system and should be avoided completely. Well, that's why you shouldn't download files from just any source and should buy the original software/games ;)

Thanls for the info. This was the only SKIDROW release I had. I usually always get CODEX, 3DM, CPY. I scan everything with Malwarebytes and it never found anything suspicious in CODEX, CPY, 3DM.

*edit: freaking hell it was the game! Dead or Alive 5 Last Round from SKIDROW has a god damn trojan in the exe! I double checked on my backup of the game and it was there! Earlier this month when Malwarebytes did not see it when I installed the game, was probably because I still had version 3.3.1 at that time. I upgraded to 3.5.1 a while ago, so that's why it detected it now...

Yes, BUT, the Malwarebytes scanner on VorisTotal is obviously completely different and not that good as Malwarebytes 3.5.1 for windows. I have scanned the DOA5 exe with VirusTotal and there Malwarebytes did not find a virus, while Malwarebytes 3.5.1 on windows detected it as a "Trojan.Shutdown.UPX".

I always found MAL reviews to be kind of hostile towards (niche)anime shows that are usually highly rated and loved in Japan. (And so it seems to be the case with (niche) JRPG games on steam - bad reviews about games people dont understand and complaints about prices are simply sad.)

Well, that's the case with all (entertainment) rating systems. For example I disagree with some scores by IMDb, Steam or even by the well-known critics site Roger Ebert (e.g. From Up on Poppy Hill (2011), it should be way more than a mere 2.5/4).

But these ratings give some view on entertainment industry products. For example one can be sure that movies with an IMDb score of less than 5 are of very low quality.

Not a single one of us agrees with completely all MAL scores, but MAL is a good starting point to know more about an anime with a lot of details.

PS Reading some negative comments is a very good way to determine if they're right or just baseless.

Not everyone likes what you like. If you dont like the site or the reviews dont visit it period. Problem solved.


Also I'm pretty damn sure you dont speak for Japanese people or their business practices let alone understand them. Most of Japanese anime economy comes from outsourcing to other countries as with any highly successful export business. Anime wouldn't be dubbed for other languages otherwise.

"Everyone views things differently" Aaaand thats exactly why people should not write meaningless reviews based on their (primitive) opinion, generalising, about anime they dont understand. A review should not be somebodys personal perspective. And I do find it simply sad when people complain about a price of a game (€60) thats cheaper than the controller I recently bought. About Japanese economy, I had not mentioned that. I was reffering to primitive people who have a hostile standpoint towards niche anime.

I'm going to assume that 'outsourcing' here refers to exporting, as opposed to sending work offshore to, for example, exploit cheaper labor rates.
If my assumption is correct, do you/anyone have anything to back up that claim?
I'd presume international licensing is certainly part of the equation, but I'd expect the primary target audience to still be the Japanese. This is more or less my assumption based on my observations, such as availability of material and merchandising efforts, but I think it's quite a statement to make that most of the anime economy is built upon exports. I'd love to be proven wrong nonetheless.

That's right. Outsourcing (like what iChina Apple does in the manufacturing process of its products) has no place in the anime industry. Recently more and more anime are dubbed (not by buyers, but by anime studios/makers themselves; and not just in English but also Chinese, Korean, French etc.) to become even more appealing to foreign markets.

Here's a neat and insightful report on anime industry by The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA).
It shows the sizeable share of (demestic) merchandising in anime industry's total revenue. It's obvious from the report that merchandising has been the main source of revenue up until 2016 where it's been surpassed by exports revenues (a pattern that's predicted to be here to stay i.e. shrinking merchandising revenues vs growing exports revenues). It's a greatly informative report to read.

MexaShare isn't bad and its file retention is even good. But it's a hassle downloading from it, with all those 3 min waiting times and captchas.

Mexashate gives me a speed of 1MB/s without registration. And its not a hassle. Just turn on Tunnelbear the moment after you press the final download button and when your browser asks where to save the file disable tunnelbear and save your download (start). I can download without and wait between files like that. Just use free Tunnelbear, and make sure you browser asks for comfirmaton of where to save your file every time because rhat will give ypu a window of time to turn off tunnelbear and trick mexa. That all is a much less of a hassle then for fighting through countless virus popups when trying to reach a file here on AT from any of the hosts.
