Admin, if anyone expresses interest in taking the site over from you, please do whatever you can to help them do so. This is especially important now that all the XDCC bots (Arutha Foundation bots and Ginpachi Sensei) that were hosting new releases are now permanently down. If Anime Tosho goes down and there's nothing to replace it, all of our eggs will be in one basket: torrents. It's vital that we have an alternative option to torrents in DDLs. Anime Tosho going down wouldn't be as huge of a deal if the XDCC bots didn't also just permanently go down, but here we are, and this is a big deal.

Admin. please let us know if you change your mind in transforming the site in a comunity or delegating it to others. As you may see there are alot of people pleading for the site service.

Funny how so many relied on some one else good will for so long and never planned for its removal.

I'm just quoting what admin said here : https://animetosho.org/about/shutdown

"I also don't intend to hand over control of AT to someone else - I encourage anyone who wishes to manage a service like this to do so under their own name and terms. Thus I believe a shutdown to be the best course of action."

I hope it helps.

Right, and if I'm not mistaken, the admin said that when the time comes, they'll also try to see about posting the backend code so that whoever is interested in creating a successor site like this can use as the backend, especially in regards to connecting to said torrents that are posted and processing them for the DDL route which I'm guessing many of us who don't do torrent will still be able to do after this site's operation shuts down.

All good things must come to an end, especially to allow new things to be born and grow. Thank you admin for providing a great site for so many years. The usenet posts will remain long after the site is gone, so your contributions will continue to benefit anime lovers for many more years. I wish you the best in your future endeavors, and I'm sure the best will happen to you with all the good karma you built up running this site for all of us ;)

Another retard got hacked, don't know if there are filters in place but blacklist their uploads. https://nyaa.si/user/Klyxar
26/02/2026 15:27 — Anonymous: "The Librarian"
Thanks for the info.
26/02/2026 15:39 — Anonymous: "Anon"
I'm increasingly convinced how weak nyaa's security is.
Admin can only block its users
26/02/2026 15:44 — 2B-
It's clear the admins haven't actively moderated the site in a while, but the recent virus posting boom is mostly users getting hacked, which is entirely their fault imo.
27/02/2026 01:55 *admin
the recent virus posting boom is mostly users getting hacked
Is there anything to back up that theory?
To me, it doesn't look like accounts got "hacked". The user had never uploaded anything previously, has never posted a comment, and this applies to Nyaa's sukebei site.

All users that have posted malware on Nyaa share the same pattern (if I recall correctly).

A lot of sites impose restrictions on new users, so I've noticed that spammers often register accounts months or years before doing anything with them. My hunch is that these Nyaa malware posters are just sleeper accounts.

There of course could be other possibilities, like your hacked accounts theory, or accounts being sold etc, but they seem unlikely to me considering the amount of effort required. Sleeper accounts can be automated, and I've seen it play out on sites like Anidex.
27/02/2026 03:44 — Anonymous
Yes, one user who had a trusted account died in 2018 and had suddenly started  to uploaded fake releases, a few weeks ago. Either some one who knew them sold the account, the password was used elsewhere or their info got leaked.
27/02/2026 03:53 — admin
I see, thanks for the info.
Does anyone know which user this was?
27/02/2026 09:41 — Anonymous
It was "HyakuPercent" https://www.goodjobmedia.com/2018/09/l...kupercent/

This account had since been banned: https://nyaa.si/user/HyakuPercent
28/02/2026 11:29 *admin
Good to know, appreciate that!

So it looks like the account only had three torrents total submitted to Nyaa.si:
https://cache.animetosho.org/nyaasi/view/2077928
https://cache.animetosho.org/nyaasi/view/2077930
https://cache.animetosho.org/nyaasi/view/2077931

So the user never actually posted any legit torrent.
Torrents currently on the user's listing are before May 2017, so would've been imported from NyaaTorrents.

I did find five comments posted (again, Nyaa.si data only):

https://nyaa.si/view/960457#com-3
https://nyaa.si/view/971771#com-62
https://nyaa.si/view/1023531#com-16
https://nyaa.si/view/1023531#com-22
https://nyaa.si/view/1070399#com-14

So it doesn't look like the account was ever used much at Nyaa.si. I imagine the 'trusted' status and the fact old torrents got assigned to the account was coordinated via discussions elsewhere.
I'm guessing the user didn't care much for their account, so maybe it got compromised via password reuse or similar.

But it certainly does give a lot of credit to the hacked account theory.

tokyotosho uploaded a lot of viruses inside the zip, can you exclude the zip extension? https://animetosho.org/search?q=.zip
27/02/2026 02:23 — Anonymous
It's a really trivial matter. The viruses they spread require at least an older version of Windows to infect them, and Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11 can prevent them.

Even try to install, it won't happen unless they remove the windef
26/02/2026 19:11 — Anonymous
User is now banned, and their torrents deleted.
27/02/2026 01:58 — admin
Thanks for the heads up.
(fortunately the filters I previously added automatically excluded their uploads)
26/02/2026 15:57 — Anonymous: "Anon"
people be doing everything except stopping pressurising AT admin to give away his precious property and developing an alternative by joining hands. If you cannot develop yourself, just fucking wait. It's piracy, it won't disappear. (I am definitely not hinting that we are working one, and it will probably be announced in a month or so... :D)
26/02/2026 19:45 — Anonymous: "Berko"
Your opion is the minority here. You talk as it is you that is developing something, let me now so i won't access by mistake.
26/02/2026 20:03 — Anonymous: "Anon"
He started bubbling after twobe warned user uploading a virus on torrent.

Seems nickname 'anon' is starting to catch on with a lot of people. But he not me.

Ten zip entries, none labeled nyaa or neko - all virii ?
01/03/2026 04:32 — Anonymous: "Dogmeat"
Thanks admin. Has a good long run. Will miss the site. I've enjoyed a lot of forums come and go since the mid 90s. Yours has been the best Ive used for direct downloads
01/03/2026 05:33 — Anonymous: "Dogmeat"
I can get pretty much any anime series released on my Vseebox but getting the subtitles for the series though is hit or miss. Same with dubs. Can't complain though considering I get everything else possible.

I suggest every media pirate add Vseebox and Superbox communities to everyone's Reddit favorites. They are similar to the illegal paid iptv streaming sites but different and much better.
01/03/2026 11:51 — Anonymous: "Anon"
yeah i can do that too, it's called downloading torrents from Nyaa and AnimeBytes, and then hosting a Plex server! best part is, I don't need to pay for a shitty sketchy Chinese android box.
01/03/2026 14:06 — Anonymous
Imagine using some spyware to get worse quality media.

Can't be me.
01/03/2026 22:36 — Anonymous: "Dogmeat"
Lol. Its called knowing what you are doing with networking.  The government and cellphone companies track everything we do anymore. You can help fight it by using tor and a VPN if you are that worried about it. Maybe you should give up on technology completely if your paranoia is that bad.  I haven't had any problems with my network.

Most of its paranoia fron people who dont understand how the service works. Its based on a peer to peer system to reduce server strain so everyone uses data. If you are worried you can create a private network on an app router just for the vseebox or superbox. A better option woulf be to buy a firewall router. Im using a Firewalla Purple and have two Firewalla Orange coming. You can block any incoming or outgoing attempts you want or even limit the amount of data released with a firewall router.

I haven't had a virus on my network in 30 years. That said if someone truly wants in any of our networks bad enough there is no way we could stop them. If people can get into NASA and other highly secure government servers they can can get into any private server if they choose to.

I have had zero issues with these boxes. As long as you have a good understanding of networking you are worried over nothing. Could it change at some point? Sure but it hasn't yet and these boxes have bern around for Luke 6 years. Millions of people around the world are using Chinese brand TP Link routers which are well known to have major security holes. Even Netgear, Asus, Linksys, etc. Are exploitable. Galaxy phones had Chinese Spyware on them for a couple years before it was found and removed.

As long as you keep up with latest networking exploits world news and have an actual understanding of running a safe network you are fine. Personally as long as my network is secure I dont care anymore who knows what Im doing. I gave up on that paranoia long ago. I was worried about that shit for years but unless you give up the net and tech entirely and go live off the grid someone is always spying on you so no point worrying about it and just practice safe networking.

01/03/2026 22:39 — Anonymous: "Anon"
Looks like somebody got a little upset!
01/03/2026 22:50 — Anonymous: "Dogmeat"
Not upset in the slightest. Why would I be? I have no tv bill and get every channel in the country as well as all the streaming services. Im happy as hell. I was paying like $140 a month for tv prior. Now $0. Also the quality is just fine. Not sure what the quality comment was. Everything is 1080p and 720p with some 4k too.

The way I see it if you choose to keep the bills because you are paranoid its your loss. I was just offering an option for others if they want to look into it. I used jailbrojen cable boxes, hacked satellite cards, hacked fta satellite boxes etc. Nothing happened then either.

This is a pirate site. Doesn't make sense to engage in pirating yet worry about being spied on.
01/03/2026 22:54 — Anonymous: "Anon"
I also have no TV bill. I download my media to big hard drives and run a media server, and can stream them with safe, well trusted media server clients. No shady Chinese spyware android boxes required. I also don't need to worry about a shady service that offers "free" TV and pirated streaming media inevitably going under one day. I own what I've downloaded, have full control over it, and don't need to worry about it disappearing on me.

I don't get TV but that's irrelevant to me as live TV is essentially useless in 2026. If I ever need to tune into the news they have free live streams.
01/03/2026 23:23 — Anonymous: "Dogmeat"
Regardless of your opinions on iptv servers and iptv boxes you are obviously serious about security. If I were you I look to get a firewall router. Trust me you wont regret it. I can do things with my firewall router I couldn't dream of with any other router Ive ever owned in 36 years on the net.

Ive always bought nice routers but they aren't even in the same hemisphere as a firewall router. I considered Netgate but went with Firewalla. Id like to have a Firewalla Gold Pro but really dont need a $900 firewall router.

My $600 Nighthawk has a ton of options but now its being used as an ap router in my network. I have 2 ap routers running behind my Firewalla.

Im running Bitdefender Total Security on my devices but they are blocking what my have intruded into the network. The firewall router blocks anything and everything I choose. I can even set it to to block all traffic except traffic that I set in a lost to allow. Firewall routers are the best network security you can get period.

02/03/2026 04:10 — Anonymous
$600 router and using Bitdefender.

It all makes sense now.

Many who search for free anime would love to be able to afford the good stuff. Just being given an old windows 10 or Mac to replace their XP or 7 machine would be a huge plus.

Hi Admin, why am I getting 403 Forbidden error while trying to download "Subtitles: All Attachments" from any latest releases? Separate downloads (i.e. one language at a time) are OK. Fix this please, TA :)
02/03/2026 10:46 — admin
Thanks for letting me know. Could you try it again?

Now it all works just fine, thanks!
